Azalea Campground

Beautiful camp ground. We stayed at spots 109 and 110. They are a up a hill so your car is not right next to you, but were shady and overall beautiful. Restrooms were always clean. Walking distance to store and visitors center.

Found that most parking areas - for most campsites - are not at all level.
Very hard to determine actual space available, or degree of unevenness from photos or descriptions. Only way to really understand space available is to visit sites personally.
Impression was that these campground sites were determined and laid out many years ago - by people who were not campers or RVers. Site locations very haphazard in terms of size, location, proximity to each other and degree of slope. Why? Saw one site virtually on top of rest rooms - literally just a few feet away. Why was it put there?? Saw other sites were drive was virtually on top of neighboring sites. Many sites very heavily sloped. Found that many sites did not have a level area for even setting up a tent. We used to be strictly tent campers, but now have a large RV, so we look at campsites from both perspectives.
Would we come here again? Most definitely - but knowing that advance site selection is very hard to determine from the reservation web site. Luckily there are photos, pad length and descriptions of each site, but these are only marginally helpful and not always accurate..
This is a beautiful, hilly area in deep forest - but with an old outdated campground. Obvious that the NPS needs more funding to update and repair these campgrounds. Build back better?? How about just - build better.

Great campsite. Very scenic. One group blasted music well into the night, no camp host to intervene.

We really enjoyed this campground and preferred it over Lodgepole. Lots felt less crammed together and it was quieter. Bathroom facilities were decent and an outdoor sink available to do dishes. Walking distance to Grant Tree trail. Close to the market/restaurant and gift shop.

Site 60 is the most beautiful site for tent camping. It is huge and the next neighbors are far away. You are on a hill with open views and your own pile of granite rocks to play. Sadly?, beautiful trees are blocking a sunset view. Ample wildlife and you can hike from the the campground to the sequoias. Also, the bathroom with fancy water toilets is a short hike. But you won’t regret picking site 60.

Sadly?, beautiful trees are blocking a sunset view. Ample wildlife and you can hike from the the campground to the sequoias. Also, the bathroom with fancy water toilets is a short hike.
