Lodgepole Campground is located in the breathtaking Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in central California's rugged Sierra Nevada range. Lodgepole is perched on the banks of the scenic and lengthy Marble Fork of the Kaweah River, at an elevation of 6,700 ft. The inspiring Giant Forest Grove and the mighty General Sherman Tree - the world's largest tree in volume - are just two miles from the campground.

The farther section of the campground is the fresher an more shaded, make sure you have plenty of blankets or good sleeping bags in June the temperature dropped below 40F

Absolutely loved our camp. It was our first time camping and in a tent! The trees gave us ample shade, we could see parts of the river, and the bathroom was right down the hill. Everyone was respectful of quit hours and were good neighbors. If you are not a fan of hills then I would not suggest this camping loop. But if you don’t mind walking down and up to the bathroom then I definitely recommend.

This campground was our favorite during our trip because of its location, amenities, and beauty. Although it’s not private, the campground set up makes it feel like there are less sites than there actually are.

Great campsite overall. It's right next to the stream, which made sleeping really nice and I was able to fish often because of how close it was. There was plenty of shade. It's also very close to the Topokah Falls trailhead and the shuttle stop that takes you to the main attractions, which was super convenient. One side of our site bordered the overflow parking area, so we only had neighboring campers on one side.

The only downside was the bathroom. One of the two sinks was clogged, one toilet was out of order, and the showers are about a 15-minute walk away or a drive down to the village. Other than that, I had a great stay.

This is a beautiful campground, and everyone seemed to observe quiet hours. Some things to keep in mind about site 154 are that it is a quarter mile round trip walk to the bathroom, it’s not very private or shaded, and the bear box will be I full sun during the heat of the day. That said, it’s right on the river, it’s a pretty spacious site (fit our 9x12 tent with room to spare), so plenty to like about this particular site.

I loved the spot 30 seconds walk to get to the restroom closed by the store walking distance the only down fall is no shade what’s so ever even with a easy up it felt hot

The location of the campground along the river creates an excellent atmosphere for camping.

General

  • If your campsite remains vacant for 24 hours after your arrival date it will be cancelled and made available on rec.gov. You will be charged for the first night's campsite fee and a $20 cancellation fee, all other fees after that will be refunded. Recreation.gov policies apply to all reservations, cancellations, refunds and date changes.  Call (559) 565-4404 if you will be arriving 24 hours after your arrival date so your site won't be cancelled. To leave a message call (559) 565-3714.Upon making a campground reservation: Site occupants agree to follow ALL campground rules. Failure to comply may result in a fine. You are responsible for your guests. 
  • Quiet Hours 10pm to 6am- Music, talking, and generators should not be audible beyond your immediate campsite. Unreasonable noise is prohibited any time of day.
  • Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki . Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum. Visitors with vehicles over 22 feet in total length hoping to visit the Giant Forest or camp at Lodgepole and Dorst Creek Campgrounds are advised to enter via the northern, Highway 180, entrance to these parks.
  • Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible.  Falling Objects - Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger.
  • A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets.
