Beautiful campground. Great? No. Close together? Yes, definitely. Privacy? Only if you choose wisely. But hey it’s by canyon and you can take what you can get.

less-touristy side of Kings Canyon National Park suited us fine! we appreciated the quiet campground, good facilities with flush toilet bathrooms, dishwashing sinks, anti-bear boxes for food storage and plenty of trees onsite. great place to hang your hammocks, set out a few camp chairs and enjoy the bright stars at night, away from cities' ambient light. we visited midweek, that might factor in the less-crowded atmosphere. especially keen to note many campers were families with children and people were genuinely kind and considerate. my first go at a dishwashing sink station, i noticed the gentleman preceding me took cares to thoroughly scrub the sink after he finished washing his big tub of dishes. it's a thoughtful courtesy, and if i'm being honest, it would not have occurred to me had i not seen him do so first. after, i always scrubbed out the sink whenever i finished our dishwashing, to leave it clean and ready for the next camper. we enjoyed a neighboring camper's evening serenades (on accordion, we think), saw other campers on early morning walks with their wee toddlers and enjoyed hearing other families' kids playing games together, really charming. imagine four days, three nights without hearing crass profanity - that's a vacation getaway! this location is a plus for hiking Zumwalt Meadow and Mist Falls (cool pools at the base). the small shop at Cedar Grove Village is conveniently near. i was disappointed when we enquired at Boyden Cave, if i could enter with my small waist-pack, just wallet sized. the smiling clerk at the ticket register explained that no packs, backpacks nor any others, can be allowed inside the cave to prevent theft(!). who steals from a cave? what's to steal? it's a hole in the ground. we skipped the cave tour. just as well, because there's plenty of good outdoors to explore at Kings Canyon. last day at Gen. Grant tree hiking to Big Stump, a must! be advised no campfires during fire-danger season.

The neighbor camp site (#31) had many people around dinner time. The conversation and playing noise went way passed 11 pm, and we had to ask them to stop so we can sleep. I think there should be quiet hour rule after 10 pm. So we can all enjoy the nature experience; even if just sit next to camp fire or watch stars.
