About Lakeside (Truckee)

Lakeside Campground is located on the picturesque Prosser Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest, just 10 minutes north of Truckee. Visitors enjoy the area for its boating, canoeing, fishing and abundant hiking and off-road trails. This facility is operated and maintained by Lake Tahoe Hospitality LLC for the Tahoe National Forest.

By late summer, the reservoir is very low which makes for wide “beaches” where the dogs can run.

Bathrooms are gross. A little running water would go a long way.

Staff was great. She kept the morons on other camps in line. The campsites were also super nice.

Overpriced, for what you get. We arrived at night and could not find our number from the life of us! Finally we could the correct campsite after circling for about 30 minutes. The signs were so small! Once we arrived we saw trash in our site and beer bottles scattered everywhere. There is no running water, pit toilets and our second night we were on standby for evacuation from the fire. This reservoir is extremely low beware!

General

  • Off-road vehicles can only be used to enter and exit the facility. Recreational riding is not allowed in the campground.
  • Click here for more information on the Tahoe National Forest.
  • Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. For current fire conditions or weather closures contact the Truckee Ranger District (530) 587-3558 (voice), (530) 587-6907 (TDD).
  • Don't Move Firewood: Protect California's forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. For more information visit firewood.ca.gov.
  • Firewood available from the campground host (subject to availability).
  • One vehicle included with reservation. Additional vehicle fee cost is $10/each per night for all vehicles. All operable, highway legal vehicles must pay extra vehicle fee, excluding the single vehicle included with the reservation. Please pay extra vehicle fee at the self-serve fee tube located near campground entrance if not paid online.
  • Maximum 1 RV per site. 
  • Water will not be available at this facility for the 2026 season. Please plan accordingly when making a reservation and planning arrival.
  • 6 people and 2 dogs maximum per site. Dogs shall always be kept on leash no longer than six feet or otherwise confined. Violation notices WILL be issued for non-compliance.
