Overall, we had a good stay. We stayed in our vehicle, which we modified to sleep two people, so having a flat spot to park is essential, and fortunately, Cottonwood had the setup. The only downside to the camp was, unfortunately, the Park staff constantly making rounds through the campsite, nitpicking how cars were positioned by inches, leaving notes at campsites, etc. This was a very empty time as well. When you're camping in a place like Joshua Tree and Cottonwood, most people are looking for peace and quiet. The campers understood that, but apparently, the over-eager staff felt like they needed something to do. Overall, a great place to stay, but the park staff need to tone it down.

Nice spot on the mastadon peak trailhead or Lost Palms Oasis for the more fit. Reasonably separated sites. Water, bathrooms but no showers. Lots of families both times here.

This was a good campground. The spaces aren’t too close together, they were a good size, and the bathrooms and water are close by. I like the fact that this is a dark sky campground- no electric lights in the bathrooms and virtually no light coming from the nearby visitor center area. We (I) came for star gazing and telescope observing and it went very well. The only drawback was some campers who stayed up very late being loud and keeping others awake. Aside from that, it was great!
