Acorn Campground

I wish there's no drought. You have to walk 10 mins to get to the water. There are tiny leaches all over your feet when you get off the water. Make sure to wash off after. I had a great experience with my family except the night another camper had a bday party with loud music and drinking till 4ish AM. They had a curfew but some just dont follow rules. Great place for first time campers.

The ranger was especially helpful, she let us know the rules of the campsite and features too. Thanks for helping us!

Upon checking in, Ranger said they cruise through at 10pm to enforce quiet time. Saturday night party at site 125 went well past midnight. My campsite had cigarette butts everywhere, beer and bottle caps everywhere. Had to clean campsite before I could set up tent. Disappointed.

Overall very good. Just a couple of niggles. Quite difficult to find one’s site and the restrooms could have been cleaner.
Lake is fun to swim in just don’t worry about the tiny leeches that May up on you. They brush off easily enough.

stayed 12-14th Gross Lake, Muddy and baby leeches on feet/ankles! Campsite we chose was nice but rangers seemed to not care and weren't there often. Rangers were not as accessible as needed for a situation that happened, we had to call the county sheriff. I would not personally come back, been to better places.

Would never camp here again at least during the summer months. The lake level was extremely low, so we did not have a lake side site. Apparently everyone thought our camp site was a great way to get to the lake because during the day people were constantly walking through our site which would set off our dog. The site was not level so pitching a tent was difficult and we were sleeping on a hill. When we arrived at the campsite, it hadn't been cleaned at all and there was broken glass and trash all over and the fire pit was filled with burned up aluminum cans and a giant glass jar along with ash and charred wood. We spent the time to shovel out the pit with our trench shovel and disposed of it. The table at the site looked like it was set on fire at one point too. It was extremely hot when we were there was only one tree that offered no shade. We did have a easy up but other than that there was no escape from the sun. The bathrooms were what to be expected, and was pleasantly surprised that there was toilet paper since I read ahead of time that they were often out by the evening. After spending the day in the lake we discovered that because of the low water level there were leaches in the lake and that just about did it for us. We pretty much packed up in the sweltering heat and left a day early. We are avid campers but we will not be returning to Acorn Campground or New Hogan Lake.

Unfortunately, it is the dirtiest campground we ever stayed at. Overflowing trash cans, absolutely gross restrooms and garbage everywhere spoiled the experience.

Lake was nice

The water was really low so a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get down to the water would have been great. The campgrounds were well maintained, on the busy nights the restrooms ran out of toilet paper so we were glad we brought our own. Rangers weren't very strict on the noise level, some camps were really rocking out quite late.
