What Guests Are Saying
Oak Knoll Campground offers a lovely setting with many sites close to the water and stunning views, making it a popular choice for families and groups. While some campers express concerns about overcrowding and noise on weekends, most reviews highlight the friendly staff and clean facilities. Improvements are suggested for restroom maintenance and shade availability, but overall, visitors appreciate the campground's beauty and convenience, often planning to return.

We reserved two sites next to each other. Once arrived site 41 was not clearly defined, my husband asked the camp host and the Sheriff about how he planned to setup the trailer prior to doing so, and neither had an issue. Later that night in the dark the Rangers show up to say we were not set up in the designated camping spot and demanded he move the trailer. The designated parking spot is grossly advertised as a trailer site. It is not, it is gravel and not paved like the other sites and is no different then pulling off the side of the highway. It was no where near level, and in order to get off the road your door either opened to the road or into their boundary blocks that are so huge the trailer step wouldn't unfold. The misadvertisement of the site was one issue and the way our families were treated by the two rangers was another issue. Our only option was to move or leave, their callous, rude, pushy attitudes almost drove us to leaving, even though we had packed and planned to be there for the weekend with our families, boats and trailers. Hogan used to be one of our favored spots, but because of the way we were treated by the two female rangers on staff our friends and family will not be back for boating or camping!

Nice camping site, no shade besides gazebo over the bench. Not too far from the water spigot and very close to the restroom.

It was really good place to camp
A little hot during July and August.
Only if they had a little more trees for shade
Also the water was good but needs cleaning

Loved the shady camp sites. Enjoyed the views and scenery.
Bathrooms were smelly and ran out of toilet paper (we saw the worker come by but tp was still out).
There was a wedding that could be heard throughout the whole camp grounds, very loud and went on until 2am.
Having a safer path to the water is needed.
Having access to showers would be a major upgrade for Oak Knolls.
Appreciated seeing the sheriff cruising and felt safe at the site overall.

New hogan is my Favorite get-a-way for nearby enjoyment.
However, the weekend crowds and homeless ruin the experience. The cost are low, which bring in the undesirables. And usually the loud, stay up late and party types.
Rangers are rarely seen and understaffed, but do what the can ... which is little and never enough. IT'S not on there end, but the STATE itself. So, I cut them slack ... 60 years at this lake and every month noww for 23 months in a row.
There are only a few campsites that you can keep far enough away from undesirables ... but when Friday night comes ... no place is safe ... not because of danger, but just because of the fact most people are rude and in considerate to anyone but themselves.
This does not apply to everyone, but the overwhelming majority of the weekend crowd or the 40 and under crowd with uncontrolled barking dogs and partiers with loud music blasting of very undiserd noise called Music, with rude obnoxious lyrics.
If you can survive through Sunday. things return to Hogan's serine peaceful self, profiding you're not cursed with a buch of homeless scanning the area. Or worse in a campsite next to you.
It can be dishearting to have to put up with the lack of patrolling. And the appearance that they just are there opn the job for a paycheck... This doesn't apply to 5 of the rangers ... and there is one male ranger I refuse to talk to, if i Call the office and he answered... I just hang up --- he is worthless.
Having said all this, New Hogan is a great place 20 of the 24 hours in the day, you just have no control what 240 of those remaining 4 hours are going to alter your mood, usually in a negative way.
If I could avoid the weekenders, and rangers makeing mor rounds and being more proactive ... Hogan could return back to the way it was back in the late 70's befor the Marina burnt down and the State mismanagement of funds.
I still love the place and still stay up to two weeks
... but weekends are always unpredictable.

We recently stayed at the Oak Knoll campground at New Hogan Reservoir. It was a very nice trip. The staff at the lake we great, the other campers were a bit sparse, but the few who were there were respectful. I would recommend Oak Knoll to anyone.
