About Crane Flat Campground

Crane Flat Campground is closed for the winter.Please be mindful of young plants and shrubs by keeping all wheels on parking pads and camping equipment within established campsites.Crane Flat Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The site is conveniently located 17 miles from Yosemite Valley at an elevation of 6,200 feet. Within Yosemite, visitors can gaze upon waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, vast wilderness areas and so much more.Reservation Tips! Campsites in Yosemite are extremely popular and typically sell out in minutes. Login to your account or create a new account before the 7:00 a.m. (PST) release time. You may only add reservations to your cart and proceed with your reservation if you are logged into your account. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall campsite cleanliness, safety and accessibility of utilities. Plenty of firewood was available and the firepit along with grill was perfect for daily cooking. The views and space between campsites were great while still feeling like a community. There was a great balance of shade and sun to allow solar recharging while keeping the campsite cooler during the day (temps were in the 90s). Being about 25 minutes from the valley and other sites around Yosemite also made it an ideal place to camp at. I’ll definitely come back!

This is a nice campground. Sites are fairly close together, but the sites on one side of Site 444 were set back a bit, giving more privacy. The parking spot wasn't slanted ideally for our campervan (with the nose up) and there wasn't any other way to park, but it worked out fine. There are trees around the site, which provides nice shade. Surprisingly, I could still get decent Starlink connectivity despite the limited view of the sky. The sugar pines did drop some heavy cones while we were in the site, which didn't hit us but could have been a problem. The campground is located conveniently for getting to Hetch Hetchy, local hiking trails, and Yosemite Valley.

Easy campsite, water was good, there was a clean area for dumping dishwater. Bathrooms were very clean, no light though so bring a flashlight, and remember to bring your own hand soap. Very nice site.

General

  • You are responsible for reading the site alerts and booking a site that will accommodate your equipment. The campground has had a complete overhaul and every site has changed.
  • If arriving one or more days late, call (209) 379-2123; your reservation will be cancelled if we do not hear from you within 24 hours of your arrival date.
  • Bring proof of your reservation (screen shot or paper version). There is no internet access, cell service or public phone at Crane Flat.You must sign in at the entrance of the campground or you will be considered a no show and your reservation cancelled.Make your site look occupied--leave a chair or other equipment so we know you've arrived.
  • Bears and wildlife live here! Food, scented items and toiletries must be stored 24 hours/day. Absolutely NO food stored in vehicles!Food lockers are provided in all campsites and measure 35 inches deep x 43 inches wide x 28 inches high.Dispose of garbage immediately in bear-proof dumpsters or in your locker. Do NOT hang garbage bags in your site!
  • No electric, water, or sewer hookups are available at this facility, however, a dump station is located in Yosemite Valley, as are showers.
  • Resale or auction of advance reservations is prohibited.
  • There is no electricity and therefore, no lights in this campground. Bring a light source!

  • Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
