Yosemite is always a good idea! Love camping here, happy at any site. Yes there are a few very special sites, but anywhere is Yosemite is just a few steps away from amazing views! Picnic table, fairly level area to park and camp, bathrooms nearby
Volunteer hosts at kiosk friendly and helpful. We appreciate so much all the volunteers at Yosemite! Also, Yosemite Conservancy is great to join for discounts on some Yosemite activities, including art classes.
Don’t miss the Ansel Adams gallery for photography classes, fabulous unique gifts and jewelry , cards and THE BEST curated assortment of books, special Yosemite/nature books, also classics and unique finds, coloring books, art supplies ,posters and of course Ansel Adams prints.
Campground Bathrooms have only cold water, no soap, paper towel or trash can . (Bears attracted to scents) There is a tiny shelf and hooks near each sink. I bring disinfectant wipes to wipe out sink, my own trash bag, hanging toiletry kit to hang from hooks, hand soap. Bathrooms cleaned daily. Most campers seem courteous and try to clean up after themselves.
Area to refill water bottles or get dish pan water at bathrooms, also area to dump some dish water.
Bear proof large metal cabinets are at every site. Absolutely essential to put toiletries, scented products, any food, soda etc out of vehicles and into locker. Ravens will also try to steal your food.
Lots of ground squirrels everywhere-for some reason saw many people feeding them to try to get videos.
I had a ground squirrel bite my finger (barely) when I was sitting on ground opening a plastic wrapped set of pencils! Maybe thought it was food? In many decades of going to Yosemite, I’ve never seen so many ground squirrels but I guess life is (too) easy for them with hand outs. A man recently got The Plague from a ground squirrel flea in Lake Tahoe, so I used a natural bug repellent as a precaution .
Recommend Mirror Lake for a fairly easy hike. Bring bikes or rent them.

There was a coyote at the campground.
The toilets were okay but there could be more on the campground.

Yosemite is a great park and Upper Pines is well located as immediate starting point for great hikes. The Yosemite shuttle is also within short walking distance.
Having experienced other national park campgrounds, I did overlook the requirement for registration on entry among hundreds of other messages pinned to the entry post. Some note in the 'recreations app' might have helped me. Ultimately, the campground manager was kind enough to not expel us.
