We took a group of high school students here and they had an excellent time. The lack of reception helped them unplug from daily life, and the sights to see helped them be present in the moment. One favorite moment was when a student saw a shooting star for the first time. Another was splashing in water near Mirror Lake - ice cold, but the students loved it. We also ate lunch near El Capitan and were able to see some climbers through our binoculars. An especially intrepid group hiked the Mist Trail to Vernal Falls and absolutely loved it, while a less adventurous crew took the shuttle to Lower Yosemite Falls and got some excellent pictures. Cooking on the grill over an open fire was also a must, as were smores after dark. The campsite was well maintained and everything was easy to find. Highly recommend.

Generally a great campsite for its location in the Valley but very tough to book. Rangers are friendly and helpful. Few minutes drive to the Village store to get provisions like food and ice. Sites in the first loop are closest to the ranger station and road; however you also can see and hear a little amount of road traffic. Doesn’t bother me though as the views of the trees and granite are quite majestic. Site 008’s bear box is not level so the doors tend to swing to one side, and the box is dented 4 inches downwards in the back left corner from what looks like a fallen tree that has since been removed, so it’s not as large as the others. Restrooms with flushing toilets a plus. Will be back.
