The campfire smoke is awful at Upper Pines. I'm not particularly sensitive to smoke, but there's something about the valley that traps the smell and make the air feel very irritating to breathe. Otherwise, it was great to camp at such a convenient location to all the best trails and attractions in the valley.

Our site was on a corner and a bit off-spec but we liked it. Cool neighbors and clean campground.

The campsite is incredible—near the corner, it's very quiet with minimal noise from the road. There's also a path that connects to the Mist Trail, but be cautious when crossing the small streams along the way.

Beautiful campsite surrounded by mountains with lots of trees to protect us from the heat. Our campsite is adjacent to the restrooms, so we went into it knowing some people may be walking close to our campsite to get to the restrooms. However, not everyone has good camping etiquette and walks directly through our campsite to get to the restroom, waking us up at times. Other than that, one of the cleanest restrooms I've ever seen at a campsite. Not recommended to leave anything out since we saw birds and critters go through our camping neighbor's things left out. Overall, a great campsite for a truly magical place. Just remember the convenience of being next to the restroom comes with the potential tradeoff of rude or clueless campers being really near your site.

I loved this campground! Overall campsite was well maintained, bathrooms were clean and easily accessible, and staff was very friendly. I had an excellent experience here and can’t wait to come back. I would 100% recommend this campground to friends and family. Thank you for providing such a beautiful place for our experience!

Site had zero shade, but the size was nice compared to others. Most of the sites are pretty small. This site was in the very back of the campground which was a long walk to the entrance where the shuttle picks up. Bears do come through this campground.

We had a smooth and fun visit. Since it's hard to book sites, we ended up staying at three different campsites at the same campground, the rangers were used to this and switching was smooth and easy. All the rangers were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the shuttle service and benefited from being able to get groceries at the local shops (I had forgotten to bring cooking oil...). The bear locker provided at each campsite was large enough to hold all our food with no issue. It was hot in the afternoons on the days we visited, but we stayed cool and comfortable by hanging out by the river -- the temperature was great there and surprisingly no mosquitoes! We did pick up three ticks one time we walked along a non-boardwalk trail in the valley, so recommend tick-checking if you walk somewhere with grass hanging over the sides of the trail. All the ticks we saw were dog ticks, which do not carry Lyme's.

One of the best campgrounds I've ever been to. Super hard to get sites, though! Had to wake up at 6:45am 6 months before to do so. Totally worth it!
