What Guests Are Saying
White Wolf Campground is praised for its beautiful location, spacious sites, and proximity to great hiking trails, including those leading to Cloud's Rest and Aspen Valley. While there were complaints about the lack of running water and restrooms, the portable toilets were well-maintained and clean. Many campers appreciated the quiet atmosphere and friendly fellow visitors, making it a favorite choice for future stays.

The last time we stayed at White Wolf there was a great restaurant, ranger presence, and ranger led campfire programs. We missed all those essential camping features this year. It was difficult for us to view all the facility destruction of what was once a great outdoor experience for families of all ages. We are backpackers so we still enjoyed our week-stay this year.

Enjoyed my stay at White Wolf. The outhouses were very clean and maintained well. Didn’t expect that there would not be any one to check us in. I am glad that I saved my email with the site number so that I could find the right spot.

My stay was four nights, Sun-Wed. Sunday night was awful as the porta-pottys were full. After servicing them, the other nights were fine.
If we compare White Wolf CG with other primitive National Forest CG’s with no water and pit toilets, the rating would be 4/5. But this is within a national park, so you’d think it would be just a bit better. The website says no water and porta-pottys, so people should be warned. The water and sewer problems are because of serious storm damage, and I can understand that.
Sadly, the state the CG is in right now shows steady decline. The inner row of campsites are closed, so just 55 are available.
Note on logistics: The Campground is surprisingly remote for being within the park. 40 mins east to the tiny store in Tuolumne Meadows, 40 mins West to the gas station on 120.
One bit of good news: People have stopped for one night and then left! Presumably shortening their trip. For most of my 4 nights stay I had one neighbor. It was very quiet.
For me, there are better campgrounds. I won’t return.

There was no running water. There was no Ranger on duty. When I arrive, there was no good signage. It was difficult to understand that I needed to sign a clipboard under a tent, which was unmanned and not well signed. The restrooms were located only in one area Therefore people would drive over to the restrooms (the Porta potties) which was near my campsite and they had a foul odor. There is no service at the site. So when people left food out at the campsite, there was no way to inform a ranger to come and help educate those campers on why it’s important to not leave food out. There were also several campfires. Seeing campfires during fire season when the west is experiencing such big fire activity was scary and disheartening.

We spent 3 days at the campground, which was quite and nice. When you arrive, you have to self-register, by writing your name on a clipboard under a tent at the entrance (we almost missed it).
We were staying in a pickup with a rooftop tent, and the site was a bit uneven, but ultimately alright. There were a lot of mosquitoes in early August so if you have a mosquito net of some sort, be sure to bring it.
FIY there are porta-potties & water to wash your hands. There is no drinking (or cooking) water though, and of course no showers.
