What Guests Are Saying
Black Rock Equestrian Campground is a fantastic destination for equestrians, offering ample space for camping and riding, with at least 8-10 convenient corrals available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground features well-maintained trails, beautiful scenery, and a clean environment, making it a favorite for many visitors. However, some improvements are needed, such as adding a portable toilet and having more accessible water sources, as well as better access to manure disposal.

First let me say that I like getting the reminder emails that you must have a horse to camp at the site. Love all of the new trails signs, makes it easy to find my way around the park. Black Rock Equestrian Camp is always nice and clean, I think the equestrians keep it that way because we love it so much. Glad to see the 4 new corrals being used.
WATER: Just wish there was another hose bib closer to that side of the parking area with the new corrals. It is very difficult to haul water over that way for extended stays. Good news is that we had 17 rigs in and there was still room for day use riders!
HIKES: I would like to see a break in the split rail fence so that we could easily walk up to the bathrooms and Visitor Center from the campsite. Not a deal breaker, but for many of us "senior" riders, it is tough.
MIXED USES: The delineation between day use hikers and equestrians is clearly marked but there are still people that pull in with non-equestrian rigs to camp. They don't "get it" that the non-equestrian is right up the road a bit, I guess we need to just point out to them that is what the signs say! Thank you for asking!

Maybe we were too early in the season. The first two days were super and the trails were great. The next two days were very cold and blustery! Also, it was hard to get the water to work without someone showing me how it worked.

Great trails. It is also very nice that some corrals have been added.

it was difficult to figure out how to make reservations in the middle of the night with marginal cell coverage but we were able to make a reservation and on arrival the volunteer camp hosts were very helpful and very friendly I recommend to future campers to plan ahead and bring paper maps and make the reservations from their home with good Internet access. Joshua tree national park is a paradise for nature lovers and people who enjoyed the desert like ourselves we drove from Black rock to Jumbo rocks through the middle of the park and it was a very nice short an enjoyable ride during the weekends a lot of people go there so you need to come early did geography vegetation and fauna are unique. We cannot wait to go back to Joshua three national Park thank you national Park service for helping us enjoy our national parks
