We enjoyed our stay here! The drop toilets were well maintained. It was funny: they didn’t smell in the actual bathroom, but walking up they did. The camp sites were very private, the river running through made for a pleasant experience. The sites were a bit small for our larger group, even though we had 2 sites for 9 people. No service at the sites which was nice. Good size bear boxes. Camp hosts were very nice. Be sure to bring cash if you need to buy wood there! Conveniently located close to Aspen, but there weren’t any hikes we did straight from the campground.

Bigger sites with more flat area to put up tents would’ve made us give it 5 stars for a campground. We would not have been able to fit 10 people per site (as the reservation said)

Very nice and primitive campsite. Restrooms are clean and didn't smell too bad for a vault toilet, park host kept it pretty clean. Spaces as fair in size and not too close to each other. Nice trees around each campsite and a nice river borders the camp on one side and a small creek on the other side. Close to Aspen and many trails. NO Cell phone signal, no WIFI, this in not the camp to have technology, is the camp to relax and enjoy nature.

Always use the bear box in your campsite for foods and toiletries. The bear visited multiple times wandering many tent campsites throughout the afternoons when people were gone sightseeing. If said bear had detected available food or scented items, that offending tent would have been trashed.

Coming off a very long winter - the water lines weren't working yet - so water was a problem. Also, there was a bear (or more likely two bears) rampaging around - amusing all the campers, and putting the camp staff through quite a lot of stress. One night in camp (stayed for 5 nights) there were 15 car alarms set off. Made for an interesting trip! Love the campground. Would recommend it to anyone! A Moose camp trotting through my site one day. Scared two Mule Deer off the Difficult trail near the snow line. Independence Pass opened 6/30/2024, so I was able to see that also.
