Our family has been coming to this campground for over 20 years- The Good: Beautiful campground with streams, hiking, and the Roaring Fork nearby. The trees muffle nearly all noise from Highway 82. The campground hosts do a wonderful job of cleaning, and are very friendly. It was super quiet the 3 nights we stayed last week. Only 5 minutes to Aspen (2 good grocery stores), and only 25 min. to Maroon bells trailhead. There was plenty of fresh drinking water at the numerous spigots. The Bad: Most sites need new gravel and grading- and many aren't just at a bit of a slope- they are lumpy and some have "pot-holes" causing leveling a camper to take a very long time . The Forrest service needs to mend the road the winds through the campground, as it is in bad shape, and cut back lots of the overgrowth that now cramps the camp sites- making having a camp fire in the provided rings really precarious. At the same price as many state parks with full hook-ups, it would be nice to see some funds allocated to an older campground like this one, as this needs some TLC.

This is a really nice campground close to Aspen for tents and RVs of all sizes. We were traveling in a 25' travel trailer and a friend who was traveling with us was in a 30' travel trailer. We were in sites 14 and 11. The sites were plenty big enough for our campers plus trucks, but both sites were pretty sloped. Leveling was a little tricky. The pit toilets were some of the cleanest we have ever seen and the hosts were extremely friendly. Take note that there are no hookups, nor is there a dump station, so this is a 100% dry camping experience. Drinking water is available, though, and there is one water spicket that you can pull your camper up to in order to fill your fresh water tank. There is an abundance of hiking nearby, Independence Pass is a short drive away, and there is a nice multi-use path that takes you past a nature preserve and into Aspen. We saw multiple moose along this path. Great experience and we would certainly stay here again if in the area.

Fairly private site although backs up to entrance road. Camp hosts were much better than our experience here in 2021.
