Difficult Campground is a beautiful and well-maintained site with clean facilities and a peaceful natural setting, making it an excellent choice for camping near Aspen. Many visitors appreciated the spacious and private campsites, along with easy access to hiking and biking trails. While the lack of cell service and some issues with camp hosts were noted, the overall experience was highly positive, featuring abundant wildlife sightings and a serene atmosphere.

We were at the group site which was spacious and right next to the river. So peaceful and serene. The host let us know that a bear and moose had a been spotted within the week and to be mindful of them. Bear food lockers and picnic tables were available on the site. Pit toilets were clean and didn’t smell bad at all. I definitely plan on coming back to this campground.

Beautiful, semi-private sites and lots of water access points. The pit toilets weren’t too bad but there was no hand sanitizer. There was a moose hanging out near the entrance and the campground is very convenient to Aspen area attractions. (Just an FYI, no cellular service was available). Would return!

Beautiful, clean campground with well-spaced sites with foliage. Close to the river and beaver ponds. Can hike directly from the campground or drive a short way up Independence Pass for other great trails. Loved it.

Wonderful stay. It was only one night, but great site and clean rest rooms. I ran into a little snafu leaving.... got my minivan stuck (my dumb move!). Camp host was very helpful!!!!

The campsite was great. The host? Not so much. I had a short interaction with her to let her know that I would be gone a good part of the following day attending a wedding at the Maroon Bells, a MUST see. She was not personable in the least.
