About La Vista Campground - Lake Isabel

La Vista Campground is situated in a meadow overlooking the west side of the 40-acre Lake Isabel. It is set along the Frontier Pathways and Historic Byway in the Wet Mountains along one of the Colorado Birding Trails. Lake Isabel is one of the few lakes in Colorado developed purely for recreation purposes. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the lake attracts many campers who come to hike, canoe, fish and spend time bird watching. St. Charles Creek flows near the campground and offers additional fishing opportunities.

This site is flat with good shade. The one next to it has better views of the lake. There is no cell service. The description of the electric sites say they have 15 A electric service, there is actually 30 A at every pedestal.

We had a wonderful 4 day visit at Lake Isabel. Our campsite looked great. We enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking. We saw many deer which was a treat.
I was sorry to see that the general store and restaurant was closed and up for sale.

Our first time in the San Isabel National Forest. Beautiful country.
A very nice campground, well maintained. It was busy, seemed like a lot of FS workers staying there. Maybe they've got a big project in the area.

From Pueblo, go 25 mi south on Interstate 25 to exit 74. Drive west 18 mi on State Highway 165. Turn into the main entrance at Lake Isabel Recreation Area, then turn right into the first campground on the right (about 1.3 mi).
