Enlightening to get a taste of what Mingus family had to go through to homestead this location. Not an easy task. We enjoyed the ranch house, surrounding area and trails. Good that the ranch house is preserved. Only a handful remain.

Very authentic cabin with two bedrooms upstairs: one has a full size bed and the other room has a set of bunk beds and a twin size bed. There is also a day bed downstairs in the family room. Bring your own craft/game table as the round kitchen table only seats four. The view was gorgeous…the outhouse type bathroom clean as was the cabin. The exterminator comes once a month, and he came while we were there, which was nice. Dirt roads to walk, bike, snow shoe on…..Very fun experience and our two grandsons aged 2 and 4 loved it!

I stayed at Mingus for the 3rd or 4th time last Wednesday. I always have a good time here and thankfully there were no people with ATV's running up and down the road. The wildflowers were beautiful and I hiked a few trails in the area I hadn't ever hiked before. The weather was great and the first night - wow the noises! There was a thump going on and it sounded like a deer had it's antlers caught in the rail out front. I'm not sure what it was. Maybe the heat popped on but I've been there before when the heat came on and it didn't sound like that! I heard a fox doing his thing outside and there was a bird that I heard screaming. Don't know what that was either. Usually it's really quiet. It was a full moon so I didn't get to enjoy the stars. I didn't see any bear poop on any of my hikes. Unfortunately the 2nd day the wind howled so it wasn't enjoyable to be outside at all. There were mouse turds at the end of the daybed on the table and I wiped those off. I did hear scurrying upstairs during the night. None of these things should deter you from renting this fabulous cabin. Someone posted that there are no cooking items. There are pots and pans and silverware, coffee cups, bowls, etc. Someone left a gazillion boxes of Mac and Cheese! Bring your cooler, your bottle opener, a spatula and your bedding and you should be fine. I would be more than willing to clean the cabin, the oven, put down new foil, etc and wipe everything down for 2 free nights :). Love this place. It feels like home.

Really cool place. If you are good without running water and using a typical campground toilet you should enjoy Mingus. The beds are rustic as is the rest of the cabin. Please treat it with love, this is rare. The cabin floors could use a mopping and a few utensils to cook with, spatula, spoon, can opener etc. pots and pans are decent. Enjoy and take your trash please
