We had an amazing time staying at the Royal Gorge Yurt for two nights. The yurt was very clean. Each yurt has a private patio with a propane grill, which was clean and good quality. Also there was a patio table and chairs, trash can, propane fire pit and adironak style chairs. Inside the yurt were Keurig coffee makers. I recommend bringing a gallon of water for this and you’ll need your own K cups. The bathrooms were near the main road. There were porta potties closer to the yurts, but I always walked up to the building. Those bathrooms and showers were clean. There are large covered areas to hang out with a bigger group of people that have tables and chairs, rockers, horseshoes and corn hole. There is a “trail”, but I wouldn’t recommend it for small children or dogs. There are a lot of cactus right in the pathway, and some narrow paths/steep edges. Otherwise it does have nice views. It was August when we stayed so it was very warm inside the yurt during the day but it cooled off during the night with the windows open and provided fan in the yurt. The staff was helpful when we had an issue with the fire pit and quick to respond. If you book rafting or zip line through them, I believe you get 15% if staying at the yurts so we booked in person to get that discount. I had read a review about not being able to swim in the river. The current is strong, as the rafts go by this part of the river. However the swimming is at your own risk. There is a shallow part near the beach that you can wade in. It is easy to tell where the current begins. My kids had fun! We would absolutely stay in the yurts again. Blue heron felt private and had a great view of the river. This experience was everything we were hoping for, and would love to come back some day!

If you have dogs that bark at all, go somewhere else. We were enjoying our stay and yes our dogs bark a bit when someone walks by. Or when the hostess walks up to our Yurt unexpectedly. Duh...dogs bark. We always get right on them to stop! Talk about feeling unwelcome. We left. Forfeited our last night, but better that then have to lock our dogs up at a camping area because they bark now and then. We had just talked to our extended family about making this a regular place. Not anymore. By the way, the closet place to buy ice is in Canon City.

I've had the pleasure of staying in the Royal Gorge Yurts on a few different occasions, and my expectations are always exceeded!
The Yurts stay cozy at night, and cool during the day. The river front location is prime. Make sure to bring some groceries, you won't want to miss out on cooking a meal using the grill & outdoor gas stove. Wind down and relax next to the fire pit to end the day. Don't forget to check out all the other amenities. Book a Zipline tour, or Rafting trip, or simply explore the amazing scenery.

We had a wonderful time! Glamping at its best. Easy access to the Arkansas river, and with premium amenities while still "roughing it."
The Yurts are well designed, secure and maintained.
Premium amenities and access to nearby activities does come at a premium price, but was well worth it in our experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to explore the Royal Gorge area.

Our yurt was super spacious and so aesthetically pleasing. Loved all of the features from the patio furniture and outdoor kitchen to the cooler and fire pit. We had everything we needed for a cozy retreat away from home. It’s very clean, has plenty of power outlets and can fit four people comfortably. Sometimes you hear the train pass through but it’s pretty peaceful and you get used to it. I would 100% stay here again.
