About Rocky Mountain National Park Moraine Park Campground

Moraine Park Campground is open for the Winter Season·         Sites are available on a first come, first-served basis.·         Campers can only pay in person.·         Campers can pay using the Recreation.gov Mobile App Scan and Pay feature.·         Sites are available in A-Loop, B-Loop, C-Loop, and E-Loop only.·         All campsites in Loop A 63-137, and Loop D are closed for the winter season.·         To pay, follow instruction on QR code located at the campground entrance kiosk.·         Fill out and hang a campsite marker on the campsite post for proof of payment.Winter Camping Stay Limit: At Rocky, there is a limit of 14-nights per year including summer.Moraine Park Campground is located on the east side of RMNP at an elevation of 8,160 feet above sea level. There are 244 campsites available. To get to Moraine Park Campground, turn down Moraine Park Road for 0.5 miles.  Any sites that are open are listed as "A" for available; this means those campsites are available to be reserved.Any campsite listed as “NR” has Not Yet Released; this means that those campsites are not yet available to be reserved.What Size of RV or Trailer Can Moraine Park Campground Accommodate?Moraine Park Campground can accommodate up to a 40-foot-long RV or a Trailer and Tow Vehicle. The combined length cannot exceed 40-feet. Before making a reservation, check the details for each campsite to see which sites can accommodate larger vehicles. Many campsites are designed for tents or vans only.Are There Electric Hookups Available?Yes. 49 campsites have electric hookups that can support 20, 30 or 50 amps. Most campsites in Moraine Park Campground are standard non-electric sites. Before making your reservation, check each individual campsite for details.Is a Timed Entry Reservation Included with my Camping Reservation?Yes. A "Timed Entry+ Bear Lake Road" Reservation is included with your overnight camping reservation. Your campground reservation will serve as your vehicle timed entry reservation. Campers can enter RMNP via the Grand Lake, Beaver Meadows or Fall River Entrances beginning at 1 p.m. on the first day of their camping reservation.Remember to print and bring a copy of your campground reservation with you and keep this in your vehicle. You will be asked to show your campground reservation confirmation at the park's entrance station upon arrival. If you exit the park, be prepared to show your confirmation every time you return.  When Can I Check into My Campsite?Check In begins at 1 p.m. for all campsites in Rocky Mountain National Park. What Time is Check Out?All campers must check out of their campsites by 12 p.m. (noon). How Many Nights Can I Stay at Moraine Park Campground?In Rocky Mountain National Park, there is a 7-night limit for all campgrounds during the summer season. This means that campers can stay a total of 7 nights inside the park. This limit includes overnight stays at all campgrounds. For instance, a camper could spend 7 nights at Moraine Park Campground, or they could stay 3 nights at Glacier Basin Campground and 4 at Timber Creek Campground.Do Your Part to Help New Plants Grow - Stay Off of Hydroseeded AreasMoraine Park Campground has recently been re-seeded after construction!  This process, called hydroseeding, applies a combination of local native seed, mulch fiber, and water to disturbed areas, and looks similar to fine straw.  Over the next couple of years, this seed will germinate and help restore the local native plant communities we know and love.  Please protect these fragile areas by using designated paths and keeping kids and pets out of hydroseeded areas.

Always a lot of campers but the park manages the campgrounds extremely well. Very easy to enjoy the beautiful outdoors here with access to many things including lots of hiking trails.

I hadn't been to RMNP in about 20 years and I'm pretty sure I camped at Moraine before. You could hear the elk bugling all night and it was awesome! Sad to hear that the campground will be closed for about a year but it's nice to see that they're closing to make improvements to the campground. I'll look forward to staying here again in the future!

Amazing views!! Great trails. We went during the elk mating season it was so spectacular seeing the animals so close. We def should have stayed there longer!! We stayed at the D loop on Morraine Campground. Had nice restrooms and felt super safe, plus the shuttle bus to the trails ran near the campsite. We will def be returning next summer!

The Moraine Park Campground was a fantastic site! Coming in late September, there was always something going with the wildlife either in the Moraine Park area or the campsite! Water and facilities were a quick walk away. The bear boxes that were available at my campsite were clean and sturdy. If you are looking for some camping in Rocky Mountain, you can't get much better!

Great experience to fall asleep to the sounds of Elk right next door, they are literally in the middle of the campground.
Also, we had a problem with our jeep and the volunteer Jeff jumped right in to help us out, so a big thanks to the volunteers and rangers that work in the park.

Rocky Mountain National Park and Moraine Park Campground exceed all my expectations when we visited in early October. While the permit system does add additional consideration when planning your trip and seem like an annoyance, I now understand how beneficial it is to the park experience. Hiking trails were not crowded. Wildlife wasn't overrun by people getting too close. The parks shuttle system was easy to use and never overworked. This made getting from the campground to all the trailheads easy.
When I was here 25 years ago as a teenager the park was so connected to Estes Park that it felt like more of a hotel trip with hiking nearby. Daytrips to and from the trails and then back to modern restaurants and shops to end the day. Not anymore. The designed separation of Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Parks activities mean Rocky Mountain is able to offer an experience that feels more in line with the spirit of the National Parks' mission. Very happy to see the positive changes Rocky Mountain has implemented. Everything was terrific.

If I had one complaint, it would be that other campers often ignored the 15 mph speed limit signs and travelled much faster than that past my 3 year old son and I as we walked or biked around the campground. This behavior doesn't fall on the park by any means, but perhaps more signage, reminders from rangers, or speed bumps would help slow down excited drivers.

  • Camping space is extremely limited. Ensure your camping unit or equipment will fit in your chosen site. Other options may not be available. 
  • Vehicle Length - Vehicles larger than 40-feet are not permitted in Moraine Park Campground.Trailer length is the total maximum vehicle length allowable.(Trailer Length = Trailer + Hitch + Vehicle)Maximum Vehicle + Trailer Length = Vehicle + Trailer + Hitch = 40 ft at Moraine Park Campground.
  • Campers will be able to enter the park beginning at 1 p.m. on the first day of their camping reservation, which is also the check-in time for all RMNP campgrounds.
  • Entrance Fee. A park entrance fee is required to enter Rocky Mountain National Park, or show your annual or lifetime park pass. You may pay the entrance fee upon arrival.Pass Discounts on Camping. If you use a Senior or Access Pass for a camping fee discount while booking a reservation, you must present the pass and photo ID upon check-in.
  • Site Limits. Each site is limited to eight (8) persons and one camping unit (i.e., a tent, RV, or trailer/tow vehicle) plus one additional tent per site.  All tents shall be located on the tent pad. All additional camp structures must be self standing without impacts to vegetation or trees.  There is at least one parking space per site. Some sites may accommodate more than one vehicle. A vehicle is defined as one car/truck, one trailer, one RV, or one towed unit.  Each vehicle must be parked on the gravel or paved parking pad causing no resource degradation or encroachment onto the main road.  Extra vehicles must park in overflow areas.Maximum length of stay. The maximum length of stay during peak season is 7 nights. Please check the rules and regulations before making your reservation.
  • Firewood. Firewood is available for purchase at Moraine Park Campground, and all other campgrounds in Rocky Mountain National Park.Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails and follow local guidelines for firewood. CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY boats and any other recreational equipment that contacts water. Dispose of unwanted bait, worms, fish parts, or other organisms into the trash and not into the environment.   • Stay Out of Hydroseeded Areas!Moraine Park Campground has recently been re-seeded after construction!  This process, called hydroseeding, applies a combination of local native seed, mulch fiber, and water to disturbed areas, and looks similar to fine straw.  Over the next couple of years, this seed will germinate and help restore the local native plant communities we know and love.  Please protect these fragile areas by using designated paths and keeping kids and pets out of hydroseeded areas.
  • Prohibited Wheeled Devices. The use of skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and other similar devices is prohibited.
  • Be Bear Aware when camping. Store all food and scented (soaps/lotions/toothpaste/lip balm – anything with a scent) items inside Food Storage Boxes provided at each campsite. RMNP has a zero tolerance policy for food storage violations. Do your part to help protect wildlife.
