Spillway Campground

The water pump was not working again this year. Two years in a row now. If you did not pack enough water you would be in trouble. Secondary water pump is not close for walking and carrying water.

Beautiful campground and area! It was so peaceful and we could hear the stream at night.

Had a great time. Love the hiking directly behind the site and in the area. It was clean and private. bathrooms are about as clean as I have every seen a public bathroom. Its really nice having 100yrds or so between spots (we had spillway #8). Had a very cool thunderstorm pass directly over us in the middle of the night. The lightning show was very cool! Excellent fly fishing as well. Camp host was friendly.

Fantastic spot. One of the best campsites at Spillway. Easy access to fishing and hiking. Btw - for those with hardside truck slide in campers....the tunnels were no problem.

Campground is rustic but very clean and well kept. All spots are great but our favorite is #9 perfect for our 20 ft trailer. The sunsets are beautiful!

Very family friendly. Ppl wanting to fish in camp should anticipate your neighbors to wanting play in the water

There isn't water on site, but the pump at the next campground works well. Bathrooms were clean and almost bug free! Lots of people, but it's a nice place.

Overall, Spillway Campground was a nice place to stay, but I would not choose Site 8 again. The road into the campground is essentially single lane, which can be a little intimidating while towing a trailer since one vehicle may have to reverse if you meet someone coming the other direction. We tow a small teardrop, and you can generally see far enough ahead to tell if someone is coming, so it wasn’t a major issue.

Site 8 fit our teardrop and EZ-Up nicely and is elevated just off the main campground road. Unfortunately, it sits directly across from and slightly above the restroom, and restroom odors regularly drift over to the campsite. The bathrooms themselves were clean and well maintained, but the smell was enough that we would not stay in Site 8 again.

One highlight was the short trail near the campground that climbs through the rocks and offers beautiful views overlooking Eleven Mile Reservoir. There is a trailhead before entering the campground on the right, as well as access near the host site. The hike is only about half a mile but is fairly steep and feels almost like climbing a staircase through the rocks. I did it with a baby on my back without any trouble. The views from the top are absolutely worth it, and I highly recommend the hike.

First, the good: The hosts were very friendly and helpful, and the vault toilets were very clean. They also kept us informed about bear activity in the area, and helped campers get situated. The bad: the road into the campground was practically a jeep trail; extremely rough, potholed, and narrow, especially between a couple of rock formations that included a rough and steep approach and exit just for an added bonus. The campsite was rough, rutted, washed out, and quite unlevel, besides being very close to the rough campground loop road. And to top it all off, the well was inoperative, and the nearest potable water was about a half mile away in a similarly rough campground. The campground needs major work on the access and loop roads, as well as the campsites and tent pads.
