Springer Gulch

Quiet spot for mid summer Sunday. Access to fishing spots are supreme. Light hiking in the area. Restrooms were portable kind but clean. Was quite a quiet night except for someone’s generator, luckily the light rain drowned them out for a time.

The campground is located in a beautiful area; however, the situation with the bathrooms was horrible. This was the third time I went to this campground and previously the campground had vault bathrooms. This time there were chemical bathrooms. When people go to the website to make a reservation, there should be a red flag indicating that there are chemical bathrooms so people know in advance before they make a reservation. The bathrooms were disgusting. The host told us that the bathrooms were cleaned/ replaced every Thursday. We got to the place on Sunday and the bathrooms were already full. I think the bathrooms should be cleaned on Sunday and then one more time during the week. This campground is very popular and it has a lot of visitors so the bathrooms should be cleaned more often.

We have camped at this campground for the last five or six years and it was always great. This time was a huge let down. The host ran his generatorfor hours on end . The vault toilets have been removed and replaced with 2 very small portapotties. These were full by Sunday! Literally 5 inches away from the seat. When I mentioned it to the host he said they only service them on Thursdays. He suggested we DRIVE to another campsite or picnic area and use those. There was no notice given of this before we got there. What am I paying for? Sad.

We’ve been camping here the past three years and have loved it! This year, we get there only to find out that there are no restrooms besides the two portapotties that were literally filled to within 6” of the top! When we asked the host, he told us they only pump them once a week on Thursdays. We were given no notice regarding this at all, and since we were in a pop-up camper, we had no alternative except to drive to another location to use the toilet. I’m not sure what we paid for, because we were essentially using dispersed camping facilities. This is totally unacceptable!

Nice spot but after our first night they smashed down the only toilet… so don’t know if they fixed that yet.

Great spot! We camp here every year at least once. Great fishing and easy water access. The kids love to explore and climb. We'll be back next year.

There was no camp host on site our entire stay so noise from inordinately loud campers persisted until almost midnight unchecked both nights.

This campground is in a great location as a base to explore Eleven Mile Canyon; fishing is nearby and there are trails you can hike (or even just the road). We enjoyed relaxing at the site, as there was plenty of shade and trees (we had hammocks). Lots of folks had their bikes as well. You are not far from Florissant Fossil Beds NM, so I recommend that as a stop.

The signage about the fee to access the area is (in my opinion) a bit confusing. Your national parks pass (America the Beautiful annual pass for $80) does not cover the fee. So you need to bring cash. It is $11 for your stay according to Recreation.gov. The signage at the campground made me think I needed to pay for each day so I paid $22 (it's fine, but I had to scramble to find the extra $1 in change as I don't do much cash these days).

We stayed for most of Memorial Day weekend (I wasn't looking when I booked it so we were just there Friday and Saturday night). The vault toilets were pretty clean to start, but despite being cleaned (we were within visual distance so could see), they were looking a bit rough when we left. The campground operator did come by with firewood and also did clean the restrooms but there wasn't someone at the camp host site this weekend that we could see.
