About Baby Doe

Baby Doe Campground is situated on the eastern shore of Turquoise Lake in the shade of a lodgepole pine and subalpine fir forest. This family-friendly campground is a popular summer destination for boating, hiking and fishing. The campground was named for Elizabeth McCourt, whose nickname was Baby Doe. She made a name for herself in the Colorado mining community in the 19th century when she took on the rugged work of a miner.

What Guests Are Saying

Baby Doe Campground features stunning views, well-maintained sites, and exceptional hosts, Darrell and Dana, who are praised for their friendliness and helpfulness. Visitors appreciate the clean facilities, close proximity to Turquoise Lake, and ample hiking opportunities. However, some campers found certain sites too small, lacking privacy, or poorly suited for larger vehicles, which impacted their overall experience.

Excellent location..great views..the camp host was very helpful..adjacent large 5th wheel trailer played his music all
Day and didn’t stop until quiet time curfew..I was hopeful camp host would caution this campsite re: noise but it never happened...I enjoy this location so much that I will
Try Belle Colorado tent camping on next visit.

Beautiful campground, wonderful weather. The lake and shoreline is very nice. Host ran out of firewood which was too bad. It would be the perfect campground if there was electric hookup! If you enjoy biking or hiking, try the Mineral Belt Trail in Leadville.

Baby Doe is a beautiful campground. Being so close to the lake was perfect for the fishermen, and leisurely walks. The mountain views are stunning. The only problem we had was the entries to the campsites are a bit difficult to back in to, especially with a 35 ft long camper.

The current camp hosts on the lower loop of Baby Doe are amazing! They were both very friendly and the bathrooms were extremely clean.
