What Guests Are Saying
The Amphitheater Campground receives high praise for its stunning location, friendly and attentive camp hosts, and well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms. Campers appreciate the proximity to hiking trails and the beautiful views, making it an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts. While there are concerns about bear activity and some restroom odors, the positives of the campground, such as its cleanliness and the hosts' helpfulness, far outweigh the negatives.

i love ouray!!! first time camping here! seemed like a small campsite, but had great campers all around! was able to sit on a bench at the overlook at sunset and after dark- saw lots of doe’s and fawns! camp host Steve was so kind and made me feel very safe as a solo-female camper!

Amphitheatre Campground was the first place we camped on our honeymoon 50 years ago. So our return here the last week of August was part of our 50th celebration. The campground is outstanding for its location above Ouray, awesome surrounding scenery, and quiet. It nicely accommodates tents and trailers up to 22 feet. We got to soak in the overpowering amphitheatre mountain formation surrounding on the east side and the beautifully rugged San Juan peaks to the west. Overlooking the town of Ouray! Campground hosts are the best we have found in helpfulness, relating, and managing a campground. As far as activities there are a variety of excellent hikes right from the campgrounds! Must do's also include Box Canyon, Ouray Hot Springs, Yankee Boy Basin, and Durango Train if time. It delivers on its taglines as the "Switzerland of America" and the "Outdoor Recreation Capital of Colorado."
