The Amphitheater Campground receives high praise for its stunning location, friendly and attentive camp hosts, and well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms. Campers appreciate the proximity to hiking trails and the beautiful views, making it an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts. While there are concerns about bear activity and some restroom odors, the positives of the campground, such as its cleanliness and the hosts' helpfulness, far outweigh the negatives.

Wonderful hikes "right out your back door". We've done the Perimeter trail before but it was just as good a second (and third) time. We also did the Chief Ouray and Sutton-Neosha Mine trails on separate days, which are both challenging vertical climbs that level out to spectacular (but sometimes harrowing) traverses to old mining sheds and beautiful waterfalls. They are both a short hikes from the campground. The camp host was very accommodating and helpful when we wanted to relocate campsites. Only pit toilets and no showers at Amphitheater, but we always add the Hot Springs and Pool to end of our camping trips to Ouray (a little pricey , but totally worth it).

Super attentive camp hosts. Beautiful scenery. Very peaceful. Wonderful perimeter hike around Ouray passing next to campground. The Upper Cascade falls was a strenuous but worthwhile hike - right from the campground . Fun hiking down to town and back up to campground.

Beautiful campground high above Ouray. Well spaced sites with lots of privacy. Great view of Ouray from site 10. Also there are many trails that begin in the campground which is very convenient. Getting there is no joke though. We missed an entire night of camping due to a rockslide covering 550.

My fiance and I arrived later in the evening on a very rainy day, the campground host was out and about on his golf cart and immediately showed us to our site - he was very helpful! And what a sight the site was - site 6 to be exact. The site itself was very well maintained, with great views over the valley that Ouray is nestled into. Despite the rain we had a great evening, neighbors were very friendly - and not too close. Our only regret is that it was booked up so we couldn't stay more than one night! Will definitely be back someday soon.
