Palisades Horse Camp

Beautiful location at Palisades and surrounding areas. Terrible road condition to get to camp though. Road was so rough it knocked loose things in my truck and trailer. Had to take my truck into Pagosa to a mechanic.

Also only 2 water facets. String enough hoses together to make it to the campsite, but then the water pressure is really low. Takes awhile to fill water tubs for the animals.

Campground was awesome. Very clean, well taken care of and the camp host was very friendly and helpful.
The only negatives were the road coming in, which was very rough and full of washboards. Tore up one of our friends trailer door popping the rivets because it was so rough.
Our pens were good but our friends had pens that had concrete in them and no rubber mats. Their equines got so sore standing on the concrete for four days.
The pens in space 4 was very nice I’m glad they were dirt even though they had some gravel in them. It was way better than the concert.
Hate to see all the pens get upgraded with concrete.
Very long haul in a trailer and then long rides you want your equines to have a nice comfortable place to hang out and unfortunately concrete is not yet even with mats on it.
Other than that campus, beautiful, it was our first time there and really enjoyed our stay.

This place is beautiful!! Corrals are spacious! Our two horses fit comfortably together in one corral. Camp host was great! Definitely recommend!

This is one of the nicest, cleanest. Quietest camps you will visit. We always love our stay.

The campground was clean and the camp host was very nice.

This campground is an absolute gem, and one of my all-time favorites. It is kept very clean by the camp host, Lynn Fulton. She is a wonderful host who is on top of everything, keeps the camp clean and the pit toilets fresh! We loved our stay here, extended our reservation, and will definitely return. Thank you for this equestrian campground!!

Great place to camp with horses off the grid. Very large pens. Bring your own water and electric, there are 2 spigots but too far away for most of the pens . Trails right from camp. Williams creek runs just behind camp.

This campground actually had spigots that connected to hoses so you wouldn’t have to carry buckets of water across camp and even uphill like the other 3 campgrounds with corrals in Colorado on this site. Palisades had level parking areas for trailers, 12’ x 24’ pens, manure rakes, buckets, and dumpsters, campfire/grills and a picnic table. There’s also a pit toilet and a big community stock tank in the middle of camp (but it was empty the beginning of June when I was there). The campground host hadn’t moved in yet, but a host from another campground checked in daily. There’s a beautiful running river next to camp, a marshy area I explored beside it, and 2 trails that go straight uphill (from 8300’) that can be accessed without trailering. The climbs were very steep for my “flat lander” horse. Trout and elk abound. I had the place to myself 3/4 days.

Beautiful camp! Nice size sites pens were sturdy. Vault toilets were very clean. 2 water faucets in camp.

Campground was nice. Horse pens were muddy. Only 2 trails close to camp. Both were steep, rocky and lots of ledges. Not my favorite type of riding. Had planned on staying 5 nights but left after 3 due to lack of trails.
