About Thirty Mile

Thirty Mile Campground is nestled on the banks of the Rio Grande River, just a short mile from the Rio Grande Reservoir. The location is perfect for anyone who loves to spend time fishing, canoeing and swimming. In addition, there are two trailheads and regular interpretive programs located at the campground. Across from the Thirty Mile is the Weminuche Wilderness, the largest wilderness area in Colorado. It's a famously rugged region with three mountain peaks reaching over 14,000 feet.

What Guests Are Saying

Thirty Mile Campground offers a beautiful setting with spacious, well-maintained sites and friendly, attentive hosts. Guests appreciate the clean restrooms, privacy among campsites, and access to fishing and hiking opportunities. However, the road leading to the campground is rough, and some visitors experienced noise issues from nearby campers.

Wonderful campground!!! We have been here many times and will continue to camp here. The mountain views are great and it is located at the headwaters of the Rio Grande. Hosts are friendly and keep very clean toilets. We love being at 30 Mile!!!

Campground was great. Camp sites were not on top of each other. Bathrooms were very clean. Will definitely return next year. Loved that it was close to the reservoirs. Fishing was great!

The campground itself was excellent. The 10 mile dirt road to get to it was tough. It was very rough and needed to be grated or leveled off. We had to go very slow pulling a trailer and the 10 miles took us 45 minutes.

Thirty Mile Campground is a beautiful area. With the Rio Grande River and Grizzly (formerly Squaw Creek) Creek running through, there is moderately good trout fishing. Also there are trailheads for the Weminuche and Grizzly Trails. The campsites are mostly shaded by pines and are not close to each other, so privacy is pretty good. The pit toilets were sparkling clean and always well stocked. Congrats to the camp hosts. It was very dry when we were there so dust was somewhat of a nuisance. The stars at night were awesome!

Nicely designed campground, it's well maintained, and the camp hosts did an excellent job - commendations! There are two trailheads that start right in the campground as well as two creeks that traverse it - both fishable. Many sites are shaded and are nicely spaced. Rio Grande Reservoir has very limited access and for those with kayaks/paddle boards or wanting to fish, Road Canyon Reservoir No.1 is a better bet. The county road in had quite a bit of washboard, but a grader was doing work on one section.

Water was over chlorinated. Host (nice guy, Bill) said your contract guy went to the pump added chlorination, appears to have been on the high side although Bill said it was in limits. Still water was undrinkable. If you think a refund is in order we agree.

Thirtymile is our VERY favorite place to camp in Colorado. We have been coming up here for about 25 years. This trip was great as always, only there seems to be a problem with the water this year. it smelled very strongly of chlorine. The last day I happened to walk by the big sign at the bridge and saw a notice that the water supply wasn't "managed" by a "licensed company" or something like that. It didn't say the water should not be used, it was more like use at your own risk. By the end of our 9 days there my face was red, burned and itchy from washing my face. Hopefully this can be fixed. Such a BEAUTIFUL place!!!
