About Dumont Campground

With spectacular scenery and lake access, Dumont Campground is a paradise for birders, wildflower seekers, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts. The area borders the Continental Divide and sits atop the Park Range at 9.4 ft in Northwest Colorado, offering views of several other mountain ranges. The facility is comprised of both a small campground and day-use area. Campsites are private and roomy, and most have clear views of lush alpine meadows. Campers also have the convenience of three restrooms. The 50-acre Dumont Lake is surrounded by a spruce-fir forest and alpine meadow that boasts colorful wildflowers in warmer months. It sits near the base of Rabbit Ears Peak in the Routt National Forest.With spectacular scenery and lake access, Dumont Campground is a paradise for birders, wildflower seekers, fly fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts. There were no camp hosts and the bathrooms ran out of toilet paper 3 days and they did not get cleaned the 6 days we were there. Also, the mosquitoes were terrible!! The wild flowers were amazing, there were tons of different varieties.

This campsite is amazing in so many ways. The sites are large and fairly private. The wildflowers were everywhere and it was quiet, which is exactly what we wanted. Do make sure to have extra toilet paper and your own firewood on hand, as there is no host on site as far was we could tell. The mosquitoes were atrocious our first day and night there, so bring bug spray. This campsite is also close to 10 ft in elevation, so it gets nice and cold at night. Steamboat is only 30 minute drive away. We will definitely be back!

Quiet campground. Lake within a short walk was beautiful. Saw an osprey catch a fish one morning. Some people fishing around the lake, some people mountain biking.

Spacious sites is perhaps the high point. Good separation from your neighbors. Reasonable cell service. Location is great - hike, bike, fish, etc.
Not so good: No sign at the entrance to tell would-be campers that the campground is full. Consequently there were folks driving through at all hours looking for a campsite when none were available. A "FULL" sign would have helped. Hand pumped water. Old style outhouses.

From Steamboat Springs, Colorado, travel 22 mi southeast on U.S. Highway 40/Rabbit Ears Pass. Turn left on Forest Road 315 at the Dumont Campground sign. The campground is located about a mile from the highway.
