About Salt Springs Recreation Area

Salt Springs Recreation Area is one the recreational jewels of the Ocala National Forest, with a spectacular natural mineral spring that gives the area its name. Plenty of outdoor activities keep campers and day-use visitors busy, including swimming in the springs, fishing, snorkeling, hiking and boating. Salt Springs is located between the St. Johns and Ocklawaha Rivers, 35 miles east of Ocala, Florida. The national forest spans four counties and 383,000 acres. It is the southernmost and oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River, and protects the world's largest, contiguous sand pine scrub forest.

Salt Springs is a well-run and outstanding example of Florida freshwater spring and is surrounded by an attractive wall, walking path and oak shaded picnic area.
While the campground bathrooms receive frequent and excellent cleaning attention, the buildings themselves are in need of maintenance such as exterior painting and water fixture updates.

This is a first class RV camping spot. Clean large campsites, clean restrooms, nice helpful employees. Parking pads are small for full size RV and

Love this park! This made our third time there & we will be coming back again. We loved the addition of sewer hookup at the site. Also liked the improvements of the roads & the cleanliness. Wish the concession stand/gift shop next to the springs would be open. It didn't even have any hours of operation listed. It never has been for us. Also liked that the steps to the springs were cleaned off!

Two vehicles are included in the site fee. However, only 1 vehicle is allowed to park on the site spur unless it completely fits on the asphalt/parking pad. The other vehicle must park in overflow parking. Boats are considered a vehicle and will count towards one of your vehicles if you bring one. An extra vehicle charge will be applied towards boats and vheicles over the allowed 2.

Vehicles, trailers, campers, motorcycles, etc. must be parked on paved surfaces. Do not park on the grass.

Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Generators are not allowed to run during quiet hours.
