Ridge Road Campground is located on a scenic peninsula surrounded by the J. Strom Thurmond Lake, only 15 miles away from the Lake Thurmond Visitor Center and Dam and one of the area's first campgrounds. Camping at Ridge Road is ripe with many different opportunities for relaxation, skill-building, family bonding, and nature appreciation. The 70,000 acre lake and 1,000+ miles of shoreline are prime for activities that facilitate such opportunities such as boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, kayaking, hiking, biking, and bird watching, and so much more of course!

Ridge Road Campground offers a beautifully maintained environment with spacious, clean campsites that provide great access to the lake and plenty of privacy. Campers appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the scenic views and well-kept facilities. However, some guests expressed concerns about early closures and issues with muddy water access, alongside a few negative interactions with staff.

  • Combination lock codes will be provided at check-in for registered campers.
  • Call the provided number for updates on lake conditions.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.

Site capacity

  • A maximum of 12 campers and 4 vehicles are allowed per site, with overflow parking available if needed.

Site types & loops

  • Only one wheeled camping unit and tents are allowed on the impact pad per site.

Vehicles & parking

  • Scooters, UTVs, and ATVs are not allowed, but golf carts are permitted.

Safety & rules

  • Stay is limited to a maximum of 14 days within a 30-day period, with strict rules against circumventing this limit.
  • The use of alcohol is not allowed on the premises.
  • Maintain cleanliness by managing trash properly and removing it before checkout.
  • The use of fireworks and firearms is banned on the premises.

Utilities

  • Dispose of gray and black water only at designated dump stations.

Pets

  • Pets must be leashed or contained, and are not allowed at swim beaches, playgrounds, or restrooms.

Local regulations

  • Shorelines next to campsites are considered public property.

  • To protect forests, buy firewood locally and burn it on-site without moving it.
