What Guests Are Saying

Willis Knob Horse Camp offers a peaceful and secluded experience, with newly renovated and clean restrooms. While some horse trails were impacted by downed trees from a recent ice storm, the campground's rustic charm and ability to access the site freely are notable positives. However, improvements are needed in campsite maintenance, including electric and water functionality, as well as trail clearing.

The campground at Willis Knob was nice and quiet as usual. The chemical toilets wouldn’t flush. There were several recently downed trees on the trail from Earls Ford to big island. This kept us from being able to make a loop during our ride. We crossed the river at Earls Ford and rode to Adeline Ford. We were unable to cross back over the river there and had to ride back to Earls Ford to cross the river to be able to get back to Willis Knob campground. There was no sign on the South Carolina side to tell us how to get to big island.

Willis Knob is one of our favorite places to horse camp. Be prepared, as there is no phone service in the area and its a long haul to town, so make sure you have a good supply of ice and first aid for both horse and rider. The back country horsemen have done a great job of improving the trails and signage. (There is a place on the trail where there is signage and you can get a phone signal).

Willis Knob Horse Camp is a fantastic place to stay in the national forest. The sites are spacious and not cramped next to neighboring campsites, except 7&8. Those two were originally designed to be rented together and are ideal to share w friends and family. Water and electric at each site.
No dump station. Plenty of shade. The horse area with poles for tie lines is not very desirable. It is often mucky between the poles and there aren't enough poles if each campsite has more than 2 or 3 horses. It is good to bring panels if you have them. However, the trails are absolutely fantastic out of this peaceful campground.

Nice and quite, family friendly atmosphere. On site camp host. Felt very safe when we went into town or to the museum. Best stalls I have every seen with mats and large size. Nice large clean rest rooms with showers and heater if you go when it is cold. Had rained the day before and the third day we were there, but only a little wet in a few campsites. Most sites are up high and drain well. Stalls were not wet either. Trails were very nice, marked well and beautiful scenery. Not mountain scenery, NO shoes were really needed. A lot of local people come for the weekend and to ride and relax. Not a lot of trails, but when you ride them backwards they look very different. Will go again.
