What Guests Are Saying

Desoto Falls Recreation Area offers clean, spacious campsites, many of which are conveniently located near the creek and hiking trails to beautiful waterfalls. Guests appreciate the well-maintained facilities and the peacefulness, particularly at night when road noise diminishes. However, some reviews mention issues with road noise from traffic, ongoing maintenance concerns for restrooms, and occasional lack of water access, which can detract from the overall experience.

Beautiful campsites, especially those on the creek. Very peaceful. This is my 2nd time staying there and plan to return again soon. My only negative are the outhouses. There is no electricity or water on the sites, but that is fine with me. I like the more primitive aspect.

DeSoto Falls is one of my favorite campgrounds. The sites are very wooded and feel somewhat private. It is important to know that there is no cell service at the sites, but there is spotty cell service nearer the parking lot for the waterfall hikes. (My car battery decided to die there and so being able to communicate with the outside world ended up being important).

We had a wonderful week at the park. I would strongly suggest this park to anyone! All the campsites were very nice. The lower sites looked very nice on the river. Definitely going to stay bear the river next time. We stayed in the upper site. Very secluded, didn't see or hear our neighbors. The hike to the falls was wonderful as well.

Beautiful weather and location!. My only complaint is the proximity of vehicular traffic to the campsite. A lot of people ride their motorcycles or drive sports cars due to the winding roads throughout the mountains, leading to constantly loud motor noise.

Campers had a choice of a disgusting pit toilet with feces everywhere and stinking, or walk 250 yards to a flush toilet facility that wasn't in any cleaner shape. The showers (outdoor) were full of fungus. Plus, the trash dumpster, the only one, was at the front of the campground and if you camped in the far loop, the walk was about 300 yards to get there, or you drove your trash there. The dumpster was locked up at 9:30pm and wasn't unlocked until 8:30am. This campground should have bear proof receptacles in each loop. No campers in the far loop walked to the dumpster, they kept their trash in garbage bags at the campsites all weekend. This defeats the purpose of trash containment in "Bear habitat"! Bear warnings were everywhere. Quiet hours were from 10 pm to 7 am......never was enforced. The hosts seemed to not care about anything and were virtually no help to campers. Their day consisted of spreading gravel and cutting the grass. I gave it 1 star for scenery.

The restrooms near our campsite (non flush toilets) were absolutely disgusting. The order was so bad when you opened the door, I was unable to stay in the restroom. It needed cleaning extremely bad. We left without staying the night, we had a 2 night reservation This past weekend we stayed at Lake Rabun and every was very clean. Something needs to be done at De Soto Falls
