July isn’t the best month to camp but nothing surpasses the beauty of what felt like a fairy forest with crystal clear ocean water. It was amazing! Campground well cared for.

It was lovely! New bathrooms are fantastic and well maintained. We find bicycles a must and don't miss visiting Plum Orchard and the wonderful house tour. Campsites are private and we have always found other campers polite. We usually don't use bug spray but it is a MUST if you go off on less used trails. The beach is beautiful and wildlife bountiful. We love this place and look forward to our 5th visit.

Don't waste your time camping. Anything worth seeing is at the Dungeness Ruin and can be seen in a few hours. No need to subject yourself to the insane amount of ticks, palmetto bugs and raccoons.
Other than the building ruins, animals and wild horses, this island isn't worth seeing. There are a lot of trails but they are very boring, no need to walk more than 10 ft and you've seen what all the trails look like. The trails and campsites are infested with ticks! Treating gear and clothing with permethrin and wearing deet bug spray does nothing. These are some mutant ticks that drink deet for breakfast! Within 5 mins of setting up my tent, I have 1 tick on the outside and 2 INSIDE my tent, that was TREATED!
The beach is nothing special. The horses don't really hang out there and it's just a big open beach. Any other beach would be fine and have a lot more to do!!

Stafford Site 003 Had standing water in the firepit and the food locker wouldn't open. I ended up using the food locker at site 2. Site 2 was closed for some reason but the food locker was fine. I informed the rangers on site. They already knew about these issues. Food lockers are large and 1 is provided with each site at Stafford. Locker size is probably 3.5' tall x 2' deep x 2' wide.

The Stafford Beach camp site is one of the best. It is a bit of a hike from the Sea Camp ferry dock but it is well worth the travel. The camp sites are spacious. There are food lockers at each site. The comfort station is clean. The trail to the beach is relatively short and maintained. The only issue that I had was the ticks. Bring DEET if you camp in the Spring/Summer.

It was May in Georgia, so that means it was hot and humid, both of which we knew when we booked the trip. We were only able to secure one night on the island, but boy did it deliver. We had an amazing time and we will be back (hopefully when it's a little cooler) and we can get more than one night at a time. We highly recommend Crooked River State Park just down the road if you want to extend your camping adventure but can't stay on island. The beach was beautiful (especially at sunrise), we saw plenty of the wild horses, a few deer some armadillo, a raccoon, and tons of birds and bugs. Our campsite itself was perfect, it was private and not right on top of other sites so we felt tucked away with nature. We were in site number one, which was super convenient to the restrooms and the beach. This was a bucket list trip for us and we are so glad we were able to do it.

Cumberland island is a magical place. Just completed my 8th voyage. Writing this review just to further information regarding site 6, which past reviews indicated was a small site not large enough for 6 people. This is not the case now as brush has been pushed back and fit the 6 of us with 6 tents and a canopy. It still is probably one of the smallest sites available, we all had 1 and 2 person tents and snugged them together but still had plenty of room. Do not bring massive 10 person tents to this sight or cut down brush to make one work. All of these sites are getting way too large from human encroachment. Mostly wanted to reassure people that this site is a great one and can definitely accommodate 6 people so do not fear and happy journeys
