What Guests Are Saying
R. Shaefer Heard campground offers well-maintained, spacious sites with beautiful lake views, ample privacy, and friendly staff, making it a favorite for many visitors. The location is convenient, with easy access to shopping and activities, and the facilities are generally clean. However, some guests noted issues with rude staff on certain days and outdated bathrooms, along with occasional pest problems. Overall, it is regarded as a fantastic place to camp and relax.

Great camping! We snagged this site after a last minute cancellation and really enjoyed how large it is! It is a bit of a walk to the water if you want to get in to swim, if you take the cut through into the bushes/trees to the right you can find a nice beach or fish off the point at the end of the grass where it is deeper. The site is within walking distance to the bathrooms also! The only downside is the sun during the summer which comes up behind the site and sets across the lake, evenings were comfy with a beautiful sunset but packing up in the early afternoon in the sun was scorching.

Tent camped and the site was great! Allowed to me to put my Sunfish Sailboat at the site in the water so was easy to get sailing anytime I was there, Park staff was very helpfully and had the time to stop and inform me of any rules that were impacted by my stay, Would recommend R, Schaefer Heard to anyone looking to camp and sail at.

Beautiful view and great fishing spot but if you’re looking to swim it’s not easy access.
