South Marcum campgrounds are very well maintained and the shower houses/bathrooms are as clean as any I have ever seen. They have great bike trails and the fishing is very good on Rend Lake. We enjoy everything about this campground

We chose this location due to it’s proximity off of Highway 57 in southern Illinois. It’s on Rend Lake. We spent the first 10 minutes cleaning up beer bottle tops, glass and snickers wrappers after the previous campers. Site 60 sits on the top of a small bluff over the lake which we could carefully walk down. Looks like an excellent spot to fish and swim. All sites had fire pit, picnic table and cement pad. Our site was level and very large. Not all sites have FHU but ours did. Next time we would try 57/58 (electric) or 79-84 (FHU) depending on the season and whether we need shade. Clean bathrooms. Great sunsets. While walking on the trails we ran into someone with full Halloween decorations at their site. How fun!
The nearby town had a cute town square and everything you could possibly need.
We have also stayed at Gun Creek on Rend Lake and both are nice. This location has more sites and seems to have more amenities but it’s further from highway 57. Gun Creek has golfing and restaurant. It’s hard to choose!
