In my opinion the park is very well kept, bath houses are clean and the addition of water hook up at every site is awesome. Sites are roomy so you don't feel on top of your neighbor, but close enough so when camping with friends they're not far away. Fishing, wildlife and birds are abundant. Last trip we encountered deer, eagles, herons, turtles and others. Bank fishing was excellent! Bike riding is possible in the campground and has easy access to the Great River Trail.

The time of year was perfect, first weekend of May. Sitting at the campsite along the Mississippi River and watching the large of Pelicans fly in and fly out was beautiful. It is a great location I will be going back.

We stayed in site 120 at the Hickory Point campground the first week of May. The view of the river was beautiful, weather was perfect and there were not a lot of bugs yet. The drive from Thomson to Galena was scenic with lots of wildlife areas along the way. We live about 6 hours away but I want to go back. If you're looking for low key and relaxing, this is the place for you.

Campsites 33, 79-97, and 127-131 do not have water available at each campsite. You are able to fill up your holding tank at the dump station or from a water faucet. Campers must unhook from water faucet when done filling holding tank. |

Emptying tanks, including freshwater tanks, on roadways, parking lots, campsites or other areas in the park is prohibited. Firewood can be purchased in the campground during the hours of 5 pm to 8 pm nightly for $6 per bundle from the on-site firewood shed. Use the QR code at the firewood shed to pay for firewood using a credit card. No cash or checks are accepted for firewood sales. |
