Pros: the ranger was very helpful and informative, the site was well marked and easy to find, parking was easy.
Cons: the path to the site and site itself was sand which I think led to more bugs than usual being around. Also, it was rainy, unavoidable when camping, but this meant now all of our gear was covered in wet sand. I would have preferred dirt or gravel. We also discovered a ton of cockroaches at night. They were in our food, tents, and bathrooms. I have been to many campsites and never seen cockroaches. I was wondering if the wet sand led to it. There were also an abundance of mosquitoes, like a lot more than usual. I camp a lot but the wet sand plus cockraoches really kind of put a damper on this campsite. I dont think I would return.

It’s really a very nice campground. Just realized your sandwiched between Highway 12 and 20 so you do hear some road noise.

The staff was very nice and friendly. The place was kept very clean. They had people out every day raking and make sure the pads were clean. The bathrooms were clean and woke up. It was a very nice park. I would recommend it to anyone.

Our site (Mather 29) was large and level. The 2 young men who cleaned our bathrooms did a great job. A well run campground.

Beware. They tell you it is $25 for the campsite on the website. Then they shake you down at the gate for another $25. The gate people claimed that somewhere on the site there was a statement of "fee area" in microscopic font and that I should have known. They wouldn't refund my money for the campsite so I could just turn around and go home. So I had to pay the 2x fee to just get into the campsite that I had already paid for.
I'm happy to support the parks if I know what I'm getting into. But this was just hidden extortion.

Camping sites and bath houses are adequate. Easy access to shoreline, convenience store and excellent restaurant/tavern at the entrance road. Busy 2rail electric commuter railway just across the road. Plenty of train horns blaring multiple times per hour (3ish) from very early morning until about midnight. Had I been aware I would have built an extra day into my stay for an $11 (each way) day trip to Chicago.

Dunewood Campground is accessible via I-94, with exit 26B leading to IN-49 North. IN-49 North connects to US-12 E (W Dunes Hwy), which provides direct access to the campground.

Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.

- All visitors must have a valid entrance pass, which can be purchased on arrival or in advance.
Site capacity
- Each campsite can accommodate up to 8 people.
- Guests can stay for a maximum of 14 days within any 30-day period.
Site types & loops
- Tents and equipment must be placed on the designated camping pad.
Vehicles & parking
- Vehicles must be parked on the paved area of the campsite.
- Park in the Lake View parking lot, not in the Town of Beverly Shores' beach parking lot to avoid tickets.
Safety & rules
- Observe daily quiet hours to respect other guests.
- Keep valuables out of sight in your vehicle to prevent theft.
Pets
- Pets must be on a leash (up to 6 feet) or caged and attended at all times.
Fires & fuel
- Campfires are restricted to fire rings, and you must provide your own firewood.
