I always enjoy camping here. The walk in site is perfect for a degree of privacy. We (myself and my dog) did three hikes and some beach time over the course of two days. While a trek up several flights of stairs can be difficult the West Beach Dune succession trail is highly recommended. Also driving straight down Broadway to a park on the lake for sunset over Chicago is great.
Bug repellent is essential, watch out for ticks.

The campsites are well spaced apart with tree cover. The bathrooms and other facilities were clean and well tended. The campground was quiet and peaceful at night. Be prepared for the bugs.

There didn't seem to be anyone available on a holiday weekend for any problems or difficulties. We were surrounded by a family who was in our space much of the time; up late into the night with music; playing ball and other activities in the street and around our camper even when asked not to.
It would have been a nice experience if there had been some type of ranger activity active in the park--especially on a holiday weekend.
We would return during the week and not during a holiday--it's a lovely, convenient park.

The campground was nice and quiet, bathrooms were always clean. Loved that the beach was close enough that we were able to bike to it. Stayed in site 31 across from the bathrooms and showers, surprisingly it was not very loud even with campers coming and going to use the facilities.

We went to the Dunewood campground for a couple of days of car/tent camping during the weekdays, and we had a good time. First, the booking process was easy on Recreation.gov. When we arrived at the campground, checking in with the hosts was easy as well, and since it was our first time there, we were shown the direction to our spot on the campground map.
When we arrived at the spot, we were pleasantly surprised by how clean, private, and quiet the whole campground is. Mind you, we were there the week before Memorial day so the temperature and quietness are given. The restroom and shower facilities are quite clean, better than some "three-star" hotels that we stayed at over the years. The ATT phone signal for the entire area is at two bars, good enough for a quick download of maps.
Across from the campground entrance is the Great Mash trail, which is very shaded and full of birds. I suggest you walk from the campground across Road 12 to Broadway. From there, you can get to the Marsh trail and walk to the shore. Plan to bring snacks and water because it will be quite a few miles of walking to and from the Lake Front Drive.
For the Marsh, I recommend a full hiking setup to avoid ticks in hot weather; for the shore, casual clothing would do. The Calmulet bike trail is good for a hybrid or mountain bike, but it is a little bare to enjoy. The rest of the Dunes you need to drive to from the campground. There are a few dunes that were closed for maintenance when we were there, but there are still a few for you to enjoy. Wear sandals if you are hiking on the dunes or just walking to the beach.
The town of Chesterton is a couple of miles away, that is, if you want to get groceries and enjoy some good meals. Overall, we like the area. As an older couple, the quaint nature of the area appeals to us. The hikes were easy and also easy to get to by car, bicycle, or even on foot. Overall, we probably need a whole week to explore the whole area.

Dunewood Campground is accessible via I-94, with exit 26B leading to IN-49 North. IN-49 North connects to US-12 E (W Dunes Hwy), which provides direct access to the campground.

Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.

- All visitors must have a valid entrance pass, which can be purchased on arrival or in advance.
Site capacity
- Each campsite can accommodate up to 8 people.
- Guests can stay for a maximum of 14 days within any 30-day period.
Site types & loops
- Tents and equipment must be placed on the designated camping pad.
Vehicles & parking
- Vehicles must be parked on the paved area of the campsite.
- Park in the Lake View parking lot, not in the Town of Beverly Shores' beach parking lot to avoid tickets.
Safety & rules
- Observe daily quiet hours to respect other guests.
- Keep valuables out of sight in your vehicle to prevent theft.
Pets
- Pets must be on a leash (up to 6 feet) or caged and attended at all times.
Fires & fuel
- Campfires are restricted to fire rings, and you must provide your own firewood.
