Our stay corresponded with the area wide power outage following a storm with many broken trees. The power outage caused the park service to close many of the restrooms and shower facilities. However we were told by park officials that restrooms were available at certain locations. Those facilities were also closed and locked. So our experience at Dunewood Campground was not pleasant. Information provided was not timely or accurate. Better communication and provision of fundamental services were lacking. You failed to provide the minimum of basic needs. We recognizing the real challenges the park service faced at the time but you dropped the ball .

The campground is basically in a swamp. We camped here for 2 nights, and it was kind of last minute so we had two seperate sites. The first site was very muddy but we did have lots of rain in the area the week before. There were tons of mosquitoes.
The restrooms are clean, I loved the dishwashing station, and the NP staff was fantastic. The setting of the campground is just not great. We rode bikes over to the dunes, and never moved our camper once we parked. There's a bike trail you can take to several dunes to avoid riding on the road. The bike trail starts right by the train station and is kind of hidden. Google Maps will show you the way.

We had a great pull through spot. Only spent a night on way to Yellowstone so only got to stroll the dunes and see the “homes of the future” historical area but we enjoyed our stay just the same.

We got in late to the campsite and due to the rains, it was very buggy in our campsite. The electricity was out due to the storm but the bathrooms were open that night. The next morning, the bathrooms were closed! We left early that morning.

The mosquitos have gotten out of hand. You can't enjoy the evenings at all. A storm came through and the bathroom lost power. From Tuesday through Thursday unable to shower or use the restrooms. I understand weather but porta potties would have been helpful. Left a day early.

Our campsite was spacious and bathrooms/showers were fine. The park ranger did a lovely presentation about animals that all of the kids enjoyed. She was great at educating us about the area! My main concern is the poison ivy growing near sidewalks. I understand if it was growing in the woods, but it’s literally next to the sidewalk to the restroom. Kids are unaware and end up with itchy blisters.

We loved our time at Dunewood! Easy access to Lake Michigan and hiking along the dunes. We will be back!

Dunewood Campground is accessible via I-94, with exit 26B leading to IN-49 North. IN-49 North connects to US-12 E (W Dunes Hwy), which provides direct access to the campground.

Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.

- All visitors must have a valid entrance pass, which can be purchased on arrival or in advance.
Site capacity
- Each campsite can accommodate up to 8 people.
- Guests can stay for a maximum of 14 days within any 30-day period.
Site types & loops
- Tents and equipment must be placed on the designated camping pad.
Vehicles & parking
- Vehicles must be parked on the paved area of the campsite.
- Park in the Lake View parking lot, not in the Town of Beverly Shores' beach parking lot to avoid tickets.
Safety & rules
- Observe daily quiet hours to respect other guests.
- Keep valuables out of sight in your vehicle to prevent theft.
Pets
- Pets must be on a leash (up to 6 feet) or caged and attended at all times.
Fires & fuel
- Campfires are restricted to fire rings, and you must provide your own firewood.
