West Overlook Campground

I grew up camping at West Overlook and 35 years later and now almost 2 hrs away from home, it’s still my absolute favorite! It’s a wonderful campground with much to offer! Trails for biking and hiking, a beach, a lake for boating and fishing, spacious campsites, clean bathhouses…the list goes on and on! We spend many weekends camping at West Overlook every year in spite of the fact there are many campgrounds closer to home. It’s also close to Iowa City where there is lots to do as well! We highly recommend this campground for couples, retirees and/or families; there is something for everyone!

Great staff at check-in and additional information when the Ranger stopped to welcome us. The 14-day stay limit was waved when a medical need was applied in our case. Beautiful camp sites and with Senior Pass used very affordable.

The facilities were superb. We were pleasantly surprised to find various activities that were available in the park, (horseshoe pits, volleyball net, basketball court.) Restrooms were clean and stocked. Campsites were spacious, level and mostly bug-free. Staff was friendly and courteous. Unfortunately, the constant parade of trains from both sides of the Mississippi River made it difficult to get a good night's rest for our travels the next day.

The campground is beautiful and well maintained. The sites are close together but the views of the lake are great.
The dump and fill station is large with recycling available.
The host informed us our National Park Senior pass was good for a discount.

We've been camping at West Overlook for 21 years. It has not changed. It has clean bathrooms, great wooded sites and quiet nights. Sweet to have that so close to Iowa City.

We love the Corp engineers camp grounds plenty to see and explore in the area. The sites are large to accommodate all sizes of rigs and very well maintained
