My wife and I stayed on the west side for 10 days and really enjoyed it. The shower house was clean and it is a family friendly place to stay.
I do think the poison ivy and poison oak could controlled better because they are prolific at camp grounds.

Positives: OCHA loop has very large campsites that are shade covered, very quiet and spread out from your neighbors. Most sites have a permanent shelter over the picnic table, which was a game changer on a rainy weekend. The camping surfaces were generously sized and pretty level, with well maintained gravel. There are places to kayak and fish nearby. The area is very pretty and good for bird watching. There are easy hiking trails near by in the Flint Hills Wildlife Refuge.
Some things to be prepared for: Some water hookups are too far away for a single fresh water hose. We had to use two. Some bathrooms are pits, but they were clean and didn't smell. There is a bathroom with flush toilets and showers in a different area of the campground that you can walk or drive to. This campground has spaces that can easily accommodate very large RVs and campers, but there are some routes to and from the campsites with tight corners that are very difficult to maneuver large units through, including getting to the dump station. With a little recon, we were able to take a slightly longer, but much easier route through the campground to avoid those tight spaces.

BEAUTIFUL PARK! Riverside west is heavily wooded but plenty of room for even big rigs. Facilities were nice and clean. Plenty of fishing opportunities as well. Good place for early spring or fall camping. I don’t imagine much air moves during hot weather due to the protection it provides.

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
