What Guests Are Saying
Rockhaven Park Campground and Equestrian Area offers clean facilities, hot showers, and well-kept campsites, making it a pleasant destination for campers and equestrians alike. Many appreciate the spacious sites and well-marked trails, although some trails require maintenance and are currently affected by flooding. Concerns have been raised about non-equestrian campers using designated horse sites, which could impact the safety and experience for horseback riders.

I'm not in the horsey-set but appreciated the setting and proximity to the trails. The volunteer caretakers were helpful, and pointed me towards firewood that they themselves provided (very nice touch). I tend towards more isolated camping experiences but the combination of location near my home in Lawrence and the campground's proximity to the trails was very workable for me. The showers and bathrooms were clean and central. Bring a key if you want to access the water spigots located around the grounds. Nice place.

The park was nice. We stayed at one of the campsites (#7) designated for those without horses. The condition of the site was fair; it is not particularly large and there is no dedicated tent pad, but the ground was relatively flat and level. The picnic table was in rough shape, as was the fire ring, but both were functional. The bathrooms were standard, with running water. The playground in the middle of the area was nice.
The easy access to the trails along the south shore of the Lake was fantastic. The trails themselves are great; they're rocky, but fun and offer a lot of variety; with easy access to the lake shore.
The campground was not quiet; there were a couple of groups that were a bit rowdy into the overnight hours and one group had a dog that barked for long periods several times through the night. As far as I could tell, there was not a campsite 'host' that stayed on site to reign in such activity.
For $12/night, overall, it was a fair experience, though if returning to that area, we'd probably scout out a different campground.

It was very loud! There was a very large party (More than 100 people) in the shelter (loudspeaker in use) until after midnight. People were parking in our reserved campsite. No park staff anywhere around.
