Always enjoy it at Canal. Good location, well maintained, very clean bath houses and great people running the gate house.

We stayed in two sites in the Hill Loop over three days - #72 and #79. The sites are fine gravel but much of it seems to have washed away. Both were not quite level side-to-side, I had to use one board to level our trailer at both sites. Site #72 is on a curve and also has an uphill slope so it could be a little tricky for a larger rig to get into. It is nicely shaded. The sewer is slightly uphill requiring some extra effort when dumping. Site #79 is on the lake and adjacent to the beach. It is easier to back into but has no sewer H/U. It is shady in the morning but in full sun in the afternoon. It also has a tree that drops those sticker balls, so if you have a dog or like to walk barefoot that could be a problem. There was an old tire and several dead fish near the beach. Fortunately the fish were relatively fresh so there was no odor (yet). The restroom was relatively clean but could use some updating and there were many bugs. The main cause is that the screens had large holes in them. I guess if they fixed the screens that would take care of 90% of the bug issue. The dump station is well laid out and has two lanes with separate access points. Both potable and non-potable water hoses are available. However, I wasn’t able to flush my tank because the hose had a 5/8” pipe at the end instead of the normal garden hose fitting. Since I was putting my trailer back in storage after this trip I had to pay at a truck stop to dump and flush the tank.

The view was beautiful. The campground was clean. The bath house was clean. The only issue we had was there were skunks everywhere after dark.

Nice COE CG. Some FHU sites and many lakefront or lake view sites. Dining at Patties 1880 Settlement is a nice experience.

We camp on the Beach Loop every summer for a week and have for years. Sites are well maintained. Shower/bath facilities are older but clean. Quiet hours/camp rules are followed well by campers. Camp hosts on site and they make a few rounds a day through the campground. The last 2 years the Grand Rivers police made a round a day as well it seems. Beach is clean and easy to get to. Overall we've had a good experience camping at Canal for years now.
