Canal Campground is highly praised for its spacious and clean sites, friendly hosts, and beautiful surroundings, making it a favorite among campers. Visitors enjoy the quiet atmosphere, well-maintained facilities, and opportunities for outdoor activities like fishing and biking. While some noted minor issues like dated showers and occasional noise from golf carts, the overall experience remains positive, with many planning to return.

We loved our campsite (#71), and loved the layout of the campsites. The scenery and views are very beautiful! The campsites in our area had a lot of room and felt very private. Also like having a sewer hook-up--a major plus, however it looks like not many sites had that option. There were a couple of negatives that I must share. The first concerns an issue that is common to Lake Barkley over the last few years, and that is a shoreline littered with dead fish (carp). It seems like they are every 20 ft. The stench is overwhelming in spots. We took our kayaks near the swimming beach to launch, and were greeted by at least 5 dead carp which were stinking up the entire area. It would greatly improve the quality of the campers' visits if the folks at Canal would send someone in a boat around the shoreline to gather and dispose of these dead fish every couple days or so. My next complaint is the beach area. The weather was very hot during our stay and we wanted to go to the beach and swim, however, the beach area was so unkept, we opted not to. There was crabgrass growing in the sand, and once again, there were dead fish littering the shore and stinking to high heaven. The beach area could've been a lot more appealing if it had been better maintained...pulling up grass, raking the sand , and picking up the dead fish every couple days would have helped. Lastly, we kept noticing a sewer smell occasionally at our campsite. There was a septic clean-out right beside site 71, so I wonder if maybe it was just getting near time to pump it out. I apologize for the negative comments, because we really were impressed with the beauty of the camp and the camp attendants were very helpful and nice. We just wished it smelled better!!

Very Clean and Quiet at night.
Campsites are spaced out and not on top of each other.

Nice camping trip. Hosts are really nice, adjoining campers friendly. Fishing was good for white bass, yellow bass (my favorite eating fish), catfish, and largemouth bass. Hard to get reservations due to its popularity.

Always very quiet & peaceful. Campground attendants are always very accommodating and friendly. Boat ramp is very spacious and easy to maneuver around. I grew up at Canal & now my kiddos are getting to grow up there as well! My only 2 requests are that they need to add washer/dryers back to the bathhouses & add more full hookup sites-ideally near the playground/beach area!
