About Mammoth Cave Campground

Mammoth Cave Campground offers campers a prime location to explore both the depths and surface treasures of Mammoth Cave National Park.  Clicking on the site link will provide more details about the site's conditions. Be sure to check the 'Need to Know' section for each site to gather additional information on specific conditions.  All wheels must remain on the pavement within the campground, as varying conditions can cause muddy ruts and erosion. Mammoth Cave is an underground passageway with over 400 miles of naturally sculpted limestone and sandstone, making it the longest recorded cave system in the world. The grand-scale chambers and winding passageways were the inspiration for the park’s name.  The campground also serves as an entry point to 14 miles of hiking and biking trails, and is just a five-minute walk to the Visitor Center, where cave tours begin

Mammoth Cave Campground is well-managed, clean, and offers ample amenities, including running water in restrooms and access to nearby hiking trails and a restaurant. Campers appreciate the spacious sites, friendly staff, and the outstanding cave tours available, making for an enjoyable experience. However, some amenities, like coin-operated showers and certain campgrounds, could use updates, and reservations for guided tours are highly recommended due to their popularity.

The group campsites were closed and they allowed two Scout troops to take three sites of the smaller campsites. We were next to one of the sites, which had 18 people and seven tents. They were loud, walking across our campsite to the bathroom day and night, parking in our spot and barely fit on their site. The campground was full, so I couldn't change sites. Our stay prior to the Scout troop was peaceful and good. As more and more people unloaded and put up tents, it felt like I paid to be in a tent city. Very unpleasant. If there's no group in the normal sites, it's a wonderful campground. It's clean, has good amenities and kind campground hosts. Having trails starting from the campground was great also. Hopefully, the park doesn't accommodate a group like that again though.

Great location close to visitor center. Several clean bathrooms spread throughout the campground. The cave tours are a must do. Night sky was incredible. Sites were roomy & clean.

The historic tour was informative, outside trails were clearly marked. The campground hosts Stu and Sandra took great care of the sites!

We enjoyed tent camping and visiting Mammoth caves. Everything was pretty easy to find and the space for our site was great. Even though it was wet, my kids said it was so much fun!

We really enjoyed our one night stay at Mammoth Cave Campground. Beautiful wooded sites, flush toilets, camp store and the staff at the entrance booth were very helpful and friendly. The only negative I noticed is many of the blacktop "pads" are very unlevel for RV's/campers. Thank-you for providing such a wonderful getaway for a fair price.
