What Guests Are Saying
Zilpo Campground is praised for its beautiful location, cleanliness, and friendly camp hosts, making it a favorite for many long-time visitors. While some amenities, such as hot water availability and maintenance support, have declined, most campers still enjoy the private, serene sites and the access to outdoor activities like hiking and fishing. However, issues like noise from other campers and limited store supplies have been noted, highlighting areas for improvement.

We absolutely loved our trip to Zilpo. The campground was clean. The shower rooms are very outdated and could use some love but the water is hot and does the job. Would have loved to have an outdoor sink to do dishes since we are tent campers. We ultimately ended up leaving after our first night bc the ticks were so bad and we were traveling with a 2 and 1 year old and I was pulling 3-4 ticks off of them and myself every time I looked! But we realize it’s the outdoors and that stuff happens. We will definitely come back. We enjoyed some time at the beach. It was nice. The beach area is mostly small pebbles and not sand. The camp store was closed for renovations when we went (June 17) . We stayed in the E loop on site E12…it’s a great site!

The camp needs significant repairs. There were no working water pumps in our loop. The bathrooms rarely had soap. The picnic tables were infested with ants. The camp store was closed. The staff was very friendly and helpful; I wish the facilities were as strong.

Great campsite, excellent staff. The bath/shower houses were not the greatest (lots of spiders), but sufficient. Also, the site we reserved on recreation.gov was somehow double booked. Fortunately there were plenty of spots available and the staff let us have our pick.
There is a good trailhead in the site which leads to an amazing overlook of the lake. Also, the marina at the lake rents boats. There is also some great fishing.

This was a great, out of the way destination. It turned out to be a very popular destination as well and for good reason. Nice beach and clean campground and toilets.
