Great short backpacking destination in a more secluded area of the park. Trails from the designated parking area at Camp Round Meadow were well marked and we had no trouble finding our way to the shelters. Shelter 002 worked great for our small group with plenty of soft clear ground around the shelter for tents.

Excellent backcountry-like camping. Clean and well-maintained. Each shelter has its own pit toilet. Plenty of downed wood nearby for firewood. Had cell reception/mobile data with Verizon.

A great place to get away from everything! And you will literally be away from everything so be sure to pack whatever you will need. lol

Shelters were very clean, locations were well-marked, there was even had some spare toilet paper to use (although I'm sure this doesn't happen every time).

Love being out in the woods at these shelters. Water is near by. Beautiful area and its kept pretty clean. Finding downed trees/limbs for a fire can be a bit challenging but that can also be part of the experience.

{"text"=>"Catoctin Mountain Park is a great place for hiking and spending time in nature. There are plenty of trails for all levels — from easy walks to more challenging routes. There’s a clear map at the entrance showing all the trails, which makes it easy to plan your hike. The park is peaceful, well-maintained, and full of scenic views. Definitely one of the best trail systems I’ve seen recently.", "languageCode"=>"en"}
