Spent 2 nights October 5th and 6th and it was absolutely beautiful ❤ Spent a day at the dunes and hiking the beautiful forests. My kids have grown up in Florida and it was a great for the to experience the pure beauty of Pure Michigan.

A nice older campground that is located near most of the Sleeping Bear Dunes scenic spots and hiking trails. There is a pathway to the beach and the Sleeping Bear Dunes Heritage Trail goes right by the campground. It's great for running, walking, or cycling. There is an RV dump and water fill station. The office staff and hosts were very friendly and helpful.
My only real complaint, and it's a pretty big one, is that the pit toilets were awful. The smell was unbearable and the flies were like something out of a horror movie. Lift the lid and and hundreds of flies would swarm out. I can't imagine sitting on the toilet. Fortunately, I had my own bathroom in my campervan. While I was there a septic truck came by and pumped them out but that didn't improve the situation much at all.
Bring any food with you that you think you may need. If you need to shop at the local grocery store expect to pay at least double what you pay at home.

Love the bike path!! Rode from D.H.Day campground to Empire one day and to Bohemian Rd another day. Even the section with crushed limestone is not bad peddling. Nice beach on Lake Michigan at the end of Bohemian Rd (Rt.669). The Port Oneida Farms Heritage Center was closed when we biked by, but it looked like a worthwhile stop.

This campground was an amazing location. We loved stargazing right on the beach--incredible! watching the sunrise on the beach was also amazing. We enjoyed hiking the Empire Bluffs Trail and exploring all this area had to offer. One of our favorite camping trips this year. We will be back next year!

Every site in the entire campground is surrounded by poison ivy. While I understand it is a native plant, that's like ignoring a hornet's nest in the bathroom. Oh, the bathrooms. Disgusting, not cleaned regularly, and out of sanitizer. Overall, this campground was actually pretty awful.

It was raining so hard the first night when we arrived that we opted to stay at a nearby cabin, but when we checked in the following day, the woman who was working was incredibly kind and helpful--she even upgraded our site when she learned we sleep in a tent in the back of our truck and the site we'd booked has a sloping driveway. Our new site backed up to the beach and was absolutely perfect. What a gorgeous campground! We can't wait to go back and explore some more--next time, we're bringing our bicycles. Thanks for everything!

Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy is abundant at the campground and throughout the lakeshore. Tent pads and campsite driveways are kept clear of poison ivy. However there may be poison ivy lining the boundary of the campsite.
