Great starting point to walk or bike ride. Must do is the dune climb. From the first dune to Lake Michigan is a little bit less then 4 miles round trip plus 6 more dunes to hike over. Also the beach is a short walk from the campground. The water is cold and clear and worth the swim. Glen Arbor is a short bike ride away (2 miles) and Art's Tavern has great burgers.

A beautiful campground! Many trees on-site, situated just off Lake Michigan, Heritage bike trail runs through the campground, many sights to see, great hiking areas, beautiful dunes, and swimming. Friendly rangers, check-out time is 12:00. One of my favorite spots to camp.

The Campsite Numbers are NOT displaying on the Map when you have to register for a site at DH Day -- so you can't tell where the site is in the grounds. Surprised to see the fire bricks for sale at the grounds and not wood -- understand the effort/need but miss the days of a real fire. The rangers do a great job and appreciate the service here and at the National Parks.

D H Day Campground is my favorite in all the world, beating out Paradise E of Eugene OR and Leelanau SP further up the peninsula. I love the easy dune walk to the bay, the view of the Manitou Islands, (with an occasional freighter through the passage, especially at night!). Also easy access to hiking Alligator Hill, visiting Glen Haven, Sleeping Bear, and meals at Art's Tavern. We've reached it by bicycle more often than by car over the last 35 years. Swimming in the clear water is fantastic.

Loved our camp site, which was right on the bike trail. It was also great to take the short path behind our site to the dunes. This is a fantastic campground, but the odor of the vault toilet was a bit overwhelming. It would be nice to see composting systems installed. Overall, a wonderful area to explore.

A great campsite very close to the most beautiful beach. We tent camped and saw mostly tent campers too. Perfect weather is mid September!

Beautiful camp ground. Then only drawback was the entire campground was covered in poison ivy. I realize there isn't anything that can be done in a national park but it was bad.

Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy is abundant at the campground and throughout the lakeshore. Tent pads and campsite driveways are kept clear of poison ivy. However there may be poison ivy lining the boundary of the campsite.
