What Guests Are Saying
Hurricane River Campground offers a beautiful and quiet setting with well-maintained, spacious campsites located near Lake Superior and hiking trails. Campers enjoyed the clean facilities, scenic views, and proximity to stunning sunsets and the beach. While some experienced challenges with the reservation system and biting flies, many found the campground to be a lovely retreat and a great base for exploring the area.

This area is BEAUTIFUL!! we stayed in the north loop— 10 sites total. We loved the quiet and the walk to the lower campground and Lake Superior. Definitely bring your bug spray. Our site was perfect and spacious. My only complaint was the horrible scent they put in the pit toilets to try to disguise the smell— it made me nauseous.

Clean site and quiet grounds. Bathrooms were ok. Great access to the eastern part of Pictured Rocks and to Grand Marais. A quick jaunt down to the beach for the amazing sunset.

We stayed at #3 in the Upper loop which has 10 large sites, clean facilities and is a quick walk to the Lower loop. The Lower loop is on Lake Superior. We booked for a week but left a day early because we weren’t able to charge our battery bank with our solar array sufficiently enough. Campground is in heavy shade but site #6 has some sun.
North Country Trail runs through the Lower Loop also which offers fantastic hikes to Au Sable Light station to the east and Twelve Mile Beach to the west. Great hiking and of course the Pictured Rocks is to the west.

The sites were clean and not too close together. The upper sites were close enough to the beach and trails without having the traffic of the beach and NCT. Loved the sites.

The walk out to the Au Sable Light Station is awesome, and can't be missed.

Hurricane Campground sites are nice and spacious. Within a short walk, you can be standing along the beautiful coastline of Lake Superior. It is primitive. The pit toilets are serviced each morning. We would have loved a shower house with running water!

Good stay and clean site and campground. My only complaint is I thought there would be a shower somewhere, but there are none around there or at the rustic campgrounds.

The only issue I had was that the vault toilet bathrooms didn’t have any hand sanitizer. All of the other campgrounds at least had hand sanitizer in their vault bathrooms. If I’d known I’d have brought my own!

Nice quiet campground. Easy trail to get to the Lower campground, beach, and trails. Will absolutely camp here again.
